4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A fresh í07 bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown almost black with virtually no head. A thin, light brown/cinnamon head does bubble up, but quickly dissipates leaving a ring that clings to the glass with nice lacing. An aroma of big chocolate malts and dark roasted coffee hits you like a ton of bricks. Iím a coffee lover and this just smells damn good. Balanced, smooth and slightly chewy on the palate with big coffee flavor punching through. A touch of bitterness like a cup of straight black dark roast coffee. Finishes smooth and slightly dry. Next to Peche Mortel, this is one of the best coffee stouts Iíve had. If it had enough caffeine to offset the alcohol, I could drink this for breakfast everyday. Definitely a beer that lives up to its billing and a real flagship beer from one of my favorite brewers.

Slightly more coffee malt than I generally prefer but not overwhelming. It has great color and aroma.

Bottle @ Bierhaus, Galway
Deep black, dirty tanhead, some lacing, good head retention
Aroma - Big espresso coffee, rich sweet dark malts
Taste as aroma, super quality espresso coffee, rich dark malts, massive coffee knocks everything else out so comes across as quite simple, nice though
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, oily. Finish - more coffee, dark malts, smooth, rich, big espresso dak malt linger
Overall - Itís a good beer, but rather simple - a massive whack of coffee (which itself is excellent) and dark malts. Considering the big hype this gets I was rather disappointed.

One of the best stouts for the money if you like the chocolate/coffee/oatmeal combo. Extremely smooth drinking with a great mouth feel. It really is like a meal in a bottle.
