4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 18, 2009 Bottled. Rating #600! And Iím rating this "live," which means Iím probably swayed by all the great numbers here. But thereís a wonderful oatmeal and coffee smell when I pour it out, into a pitch black body with a short, but dense foam thatís brown as the foam on an espresso. First taste impression is very coffee-bitter. Hell, I never take my coffee this bitter. Almost wonder if I should put in a little cream, or even some Kahlua. Nah, stick it out, Drink, olí boy. Chocolatey like those tiny squares of 75% cocoa chocolate at Starbucks. Alcohol may not be apparent, but I can sure tell itís there. Leaves my lips pretty sticky. Picking up a cherry cordial suggestion toward the end. Oh, and thereís plenty of good beery bitterness to go along. Itís kind of a little brother to a DFH WWStout. I could have followed the example of some other raters and had this over breakfast, but Iím much more eloquent this time of night and besides, I had a Smithwickís for breakfast at Midway airport last weekend that I still must (p)rate about.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours jet black with a huge mocha head which recedes to a foamy layer. Aroma is dominated by coffee, dark chocolate and some dried fruits - raisins, figs. Rich dark chocolate, coffee bitterness, slight vanilla sweetness and some roastiness is picked up in the taste. Full bodied with a decadent mouthfeel.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Stunned to find Iíve not rated this. Bottle. Nose is fresh, fresh coffee, slight vanilla a little woodiness and a little smoke. Taste is coffee, vanilla, a little coco, an earthy note from the oats, emerging smoke in the finish, a touch of spice and pepper. Slight dates note underneath.
Itís a mature classic.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
I was disappointed when I found out this was only a seasonal beer. I really wanted this to be my year round go to beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a 12 oz bottle with bottle date 10/14/14. Consumed Halloween night. Pours dark dark brown, light coming through at the sides, two finger cinnamon head. I could smell the coffee immediately after cracking the cap. So much coffee in the nose, the coffee just dominates everything else. Slightly roasty, just a tinge of alcohol, but not so much chocolate. Taste follows the nose, bitter coffee, a very little bit of alcohol, the chocolate sweetens it up a little bit, but the thing there I canít shake is this underripe green pepper flavor. Maybe thatís the coffee. I donít know, but I donít necessarily like it. Still pretty good. Medium bodied, I was expecting something fuller. As a guy who doesnít drink coffee, I wasnít sure if this was worth it, but itís still pretty good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Strong beer but not a strong imp stout. Very drinkable for the style, but nevertheless has rich buque.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Good Spirits Co. in Glasgow.
Pours almost black with a medium, tan head.
Lovely aroma of coffee and malts.
Tastes of coffee and dark, silky chocolate. Chocolate is more prominent in the finish.
Very thick, oily mouthfeel. A bit like drinking a liquidised coffee and chocolate smoothie.
Basically, delicious. One of the best beers Iíve ever tasted.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark black pour with creamy brown head. Nose is heavy coffee, the most Iíve ever encountered in a beer! I love stout and I love coffee, so this thing is kind of a no-brainer. The flavor doesnít disappoint. Found myself thinking I should add cream and sugar. This is one serious coffee stout!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from beer Gonzo, Coventry. Aroma has coffee, chocolate, but is do instead by a syrupy sweetness, the colour thick deep black with a tan head thatís thick and creamy. The taste is just a bit too sickly sweet for me, but itís like a fake sweet. If that makes sense. Having said that I enjoyed the beer.
