Youíve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. Weíre actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

UPDATED: JUN 18, 2009 Bottled. Rating #600! And Iím rating this "live," which means Iím probably swayed by all the great numbers here. But thereís a wonderful oatmeal and coffee smell when I pour it out, into a pitch black body with a short, but dense foam thatís brown as the foam on an espresso. First taste impression is very coffee-bitter. Hell, I never take my coffee this bitter. Almost wonder if I should put in a little cream, or even some Kahlua. Nah, stick it out, Drink, olí boy. Chocolatey like those tiny squares of 75% cocoa chocolate at Starbucks. Alcohol may not be apparent, but I can sure tell itís there. Leaves my lips pretty sticky. Picking up a cherry cordial suggestion toward the end. Oh, and thereís plenty of good beery bitterness to go along. Itís kind of a little brother to a DFH WWStout. I could have followed the example of some other raters and had this over breakfast, but Iím much more eloquent this time of night and besides, I had a Smithwickís for breakfast at Midway airport last weekend that I still must (p)rate about.

Bottle, thanks bluus, 30/01/15. Pours a dark brown, black with a good, dark-latte colored head. Aroma is quite a hit of chocolate, some roast and oats. The oatiness is quite strong in the taste. Quite roasty too with plenty of coffee. Chcolate is a little weaker. Fairly stiff finish. Full with medium carbonation. Definitely good though somewhat lighter than expected.

What I Think about this varies but today I think itís pretty good as im drinking american ales. Jet Black, very small cream head, very little lacing, smooth, no noticeable carbonation. My husband loves it. A pretty tasty oatmeal coffee double chocolate stout that is not boozy but is only 8.3%.

Poured into a teku glass like thick dark coffee with a little bit of coffee colored foam. The nose has a very distinct and abundant red bean/adzuki sweetness followed by the dark aromas of espresso and smoke with some hints of charred wood. The palate is medium to highly carbonated whilst smooth, thick bodied, and slightly foamy. The flavors are a lot of dark chocolate and coffee with hints of the red bean/adzuki sweetness. The finish shows a very soft dark chocolate bitterness. The alcohol is slightly apparent if drunk too cold and fast so let it warm up.

Bottle. Pours in black oily body with pretty low tan head. Aroma has a strong coffee character, roasty, malty, chocolate, very gentle on the nose. Taste has harmonic chocolate flavor, long astringent coffee bitterness in the after taste. Oatmeal texture, oily. Body is full, heavy, medium to high carbonation. Amazing stout.

From a 12 oz bottle. Not quite black, just a little reddish-brown head which disappears quickly. Reasonably thick on the pour. Aroma of coffee, lots of chocolate, roasted malts, oats. This is a mildly bitter beer. This is an outstanding beer, available in the winter.....try it while you can.

One of the best at style. Anyone that found it should try it. Great body, with coffee and chocolate aroma and taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 355ml bottle on 24/1/2015. Pours close to black with a small head. Has a powerful, quite lovely aroma featuring masses of coffee, milk and dark chocolate and vanilla. Flavour wise, this takes you to coffee and chocolate heaven - sweet and roasty with exquisite smoothness and balance. Thereís more vanilla, a hint of oats and a touch of spice, and while itís obviously a big beer, itís not in the least bit heavy. This is so easy to drink, with a sublime creamy palate and soft carbonation. Intensity and complexity are both there in spades. This is simply an extraordinary experience. I never expected to find another coffee stout which would challenge the extraordinary Peche Mortel, but I think this one might even just shade it. Easily one of if not the best beers Iíve ever had the pleasure of consuming. Abso-fucking-lutely magnificent.
