4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured so dark from the 12oz. bottle the lights went dim and the glass topped with a huge four-finger, foamy, dark beige head, with godly resilience and thick coated lacing around the edges of my tumbler: Aroma of oats, raw cereal malts, hazelnut, subtle hints of cinnamon, and alcohol. When the head dissipates some, I get a ton of sweetened chocolate, chewy toffee, crystallized ginger, definitely dark roasted malts, coffee mixed with skim milk, and some earthworm. Rich layers of sweet chocolate take the palate upfront, as well as the feeling of taking a pure shot of bitter espresso at the back of the tongue. An enjoyable and subtly persistent heat of alcohol warms when going down the hatch. Drinkability: One of the few heavy chocolate stouts out there that I can imagine chugging (or at least heavily downing). Pairing: Chocolate syrup drizzled on a seven layer chocolate bread pudding concoction. Rebuy: Yes. #470 on 05072010, DG.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2013 version aged a year. Coffee still there. Smell dark roast and coffee pour oil black no head. Taste coffee expresso not much chocolate. Dry quick finish. You can really taste the alcohol in this. Finish is where the chocolate comes in bakers chocolate. Gets smooth as it warms.

I normally like beer cold but as this one warms up the oatmeal flavor comes out, the coffee gives it a good finish

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
This was the first Founderís beer I ever had, close to 10yrs ago. A desert beer that isnít so sweet that you only want one. Great roasty malt with just the right amount of chocolate and coffee. In fact itís a good light dinner beer as much as it is a desert beer. I canít remember if Iíve had one for Breakfast. Probably.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This beer is beyond description! It is really close to perfection. The liquid is pitch black with a tiny brown lacy head. Taste is stunning with coffee, a little bit of sweet but just the perfect pinch of sugar you would put in your morning coffee. This one is absolutely on my personnal imperial stouts top 3 list this year! Stunning beer!
