Bottle from a tasting with friends a while back, graciuosly shared by "the big kahuna." ;-) This was one of the best beers Iíve had. Itís exactly what Iím looking for as a special treat from time to time... soppy sweet and boozy with plenty of complexity. Maple syrup obviously shines through with all the complexity that the breakfast stout has to offer. Better than KBS for me simply due to that sweet maple, though I agree with others that KBS might have more complexity... wish I could have tried them side by side.

750ml bottle - big thanks to Jay A. for sharing this! Split with b3shine and danielcoor. Bottle has kind of a higher fill... Maybe this has aged better than other examples? Very dark brown / red color. Thin bubbly dark brown head. Dots of lace. Big coffee in the nose. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lighter, creamy carbonation. Very nice chewy texture to it. Kind of dry in the finish. Dark chocolate, whipped cream, coffee, and some nice maple syrup still. Just light hints of oxidization. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, just a very light acidic bite - not sure if thatís the coffee or the age, giving that light bit of bitter acidity. Definitely getting way better as this warms up, holy shit. Super creamy, velvety smooth texture to this. Big chewy oat character coming out a ton. Awesome vanilla coffee notes, good oats, maple. Wow. Glad I got a bigger sample of this, just so much complexity and awesome flavors playing together. Maple syrup way more now. Looks very good for an aged imperial stout, Iím tempted to raise appearance to a 5. Incredible stuff, wow. Wasnít expecting to rate this so highly (especially for a not fresh example - though it was stored cool), but it really is incredibly impressive. Looking for criticisms, maybe just some very light hints of molasses, but I have to look for them.

On draught at Meridian Pint during the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference. Apparently there was something wrong with this keg, as it wasnít anything special?

Very generously shared by Kermis. Poured a deep, dark brown black with an oily viscosity and a small tan ring,. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, roast coffee. Full body, flavour as the aroma, lushly smooth, some bourbon sweetness, slight hint of the maple syrup?

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Big thanks. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin broken tan head and a few bubbles around the edge of the glass. The aroma is rich roasted malt creamy caramel coffee chocolate. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a rich malt ripe fruit creamy malt alcoholic palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation and a medium to long bitter finish. A really superb rich creamy smooth bitter alcoholic beer. The best beer of the day and some more.

Thanks Mike. Pours a pitch black with a dark mocha foam which settles. Great lacing and retention. The nose is coffee beans, roasted malt, anise, lots of chocolate and a faint maple coated sweetness on the end. It smells really great, but a bit jumbled together as the anise roast bitter clashes a bit with the chocolate maple sweetness. It is pretty sweet. Not much from bourbon barrel. A little oak, and vanilla tastes really good. Rich and creamy mouth feel. Iím sure age comes into play since itís past the two year mark, Thereís an extra maple sweetness.

Bottle - thanks to Cocoapuph for helping me to spear this wale! Pours deep black with a medium brown head that dissipates rather quickly with good lacing. Aroma is maple, chocolate, roasty, with a touch of wood. Flavor is similar, quite sweet initially, cut by medium bitterness that lingers into the far finish. Maple, chocolate, anise notes predominate. Finish is quite bitter indeed. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. There was very little evidence of the time spent in barrels left in the beer after a couple of years.
