4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours an opaque, jet black, with a thin dark brown head that dissipates quickly. The pour into the glass was very viscous, like motor oil, with lots of stickiness. Aroma is of alcohol upfront, but not mere booze. A very distinct smell of whiskey drives the aroma. Behind that licorice and dried dark fruits (currant) are detectable. Taste is complex and amazing. Maple syrup and wood smoke were the first things tasted and dominated throughout. As the beer warmed a bit more vanilla, molasses, and a general sweetness further emerge. Three things of interest here: 1) though the smell of alcohol is prominent, the taste of alcohol really wasn’t. The flavor was more of whiskey barrels than whiskey itself, 2) peculiar for an imperial stout, there was little in the way of coffee or chocolate flavor, 3) the aforementioned flavors were so overwhelming that malts really took a backseat. Palate was oily, verging on creamy. Just a little in the way of carbonation. Almost perfect. Overall, CBS lived up to the hype for me. KBS probably hits harder and packs more punch, but CBS was amazingly flavorful and complex. A real treat for stouties everywhere. Hope to see more of this produced in the future.

750 ml bottle shared with Nightfall. Thank you very much Alex for keeping this beer for me!! Almost black color with beige brown head. Roasted malty aroma, milk and dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, coffee, vanilla, some spicy notes, some fruit notes, light wood. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma but even better. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. Great beer! I could drink the whole bottle alone!!

July 25, 2015. On tap at Mission Dolores, got the last 2 pours. #3000.
Black with a medium sized creamy tan head. Aroma is intense, yet balanced, with fresh ground coffee, maple syrup, toffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, warming bourbon alcohol. ,
Taste is medium sweet, soft roasted bitterness. Finish is smooth bitter and roasted coffee and dark chocolate, sweet maple syrup, toffee, vanilla and some warming bourbon notes. Full bodied, creamy, sticky texture, soft carbonation.
Glad to finally try this one, been a big want for a long time and getting the two last pours with my girlfriend after a long day in the car was great. Tried it side by side with KBS and CBS was much smoother and more balanced, the maple syrup complemented the coffee in a great way. Amazing!

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled on tap at the Knick. Nie bourbon nose with oak and maple. Sweet and vapory. Dark brown-black opaque with thin tan head. Medium-chewy body with medium-light carbonation. Sweet with chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and maple. Alcohol. A little rough on the woody notes, boozy and overly sweet finish and mildly cloying after.

This big flavored beer will jack you in the jaw. Pours a jet black. Aromas of espresso/chocolate, maple bourbon hints and roasted malts. Taste jumps out with dark roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate malt with a nice bitter bite. Finishes with a sweet boozy tail...

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
From a bottle picked at Brawley’s Beverage several years ago, a real white whale in the beer world. Pours an opaque black with a minimal tan head. Nose is maple, coffee, cocoa and multiple dark fruits. The alcohol is not well disguised, but that’s not an issue with me. Taste was scrumptious, breakfast in a bottle. Highly recommended.
