4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours an opaque, jet black, with a thin dark brown head that dissipates quickly. The pour into the glass was very viscous, like motor oil, with lots of stickiness. Aroma is of alcohol upfront, but not mere booze. A very distinct smell of whiskey drives the aroma. Behind that licorice and dried dark fruits (currant) are detectable. Taste is complex and amazing. Maple syrup and wood smoke were the first things tasted and dominated throughout. As the beer warmed a bit more vanilla, molasses, and a general sweetness further emerge. Three things of interest here: 1) though the smell of alcohol is prominent, the taste of alcohol really wasn’t. The flavor was more of whiskey barrels than whiskey itself, 2) peculiar for an imperial stout, there was little in the way of coffee or chocolate flavor, 3) the aforementioned flavors were so overwhelming that malts really took a backseat. Palate was oily, verging on creamy. Just a little in the way of carbonation. Almost perfect. Overall, CBS lived up to the hype for me. KBS probably hits harder and packs more punch, but CBS was amazingly flavorful and complex. A real treat for stouties everywhere. Hope to see more of this produced in the future.

On draft at Global Brew EDW. This was out several years ago and I missed it then. So glad to get to have it now. Looks like a big stout. So much goodness going on here. Huge maple, monster roastiness, massive dark malts. Delicious. My only turn off is the alcohol. It is not hidden and is kind of in your face. Still, this is a really good beer. Glad I got to try it. Thanks for putting this out again.

8 oz pour. Holy wow! Dark black. Maple heaven...and i love maple. Sticky. Coffee. Pretty perfect. Start making more!! Best thing to come out of canada since John Candy. Not boozy, just totally drinkable. Im going to put maple in my coffee tomorrow. This totally lives up to hype. I find heaven and i can only have one because i need to drive home. ...reminds me of twilight zone episode where all guy wants to do is read and he steps on his glasses. .

8oz pour- great lacing smell is of the maple at the end of the great Java and malty goodness. Same with the taste except less maple in the taste. There’s a reason this is so sought after.

Aged 5 years. Black pour with a thin light tan head. Big aromas of maple, oak barrel, char, tobacco, coffee. Amazing flavor wth chocolate, maple, oaked bourbon, coffee, more maple and barrel, some bourbon, more chocolate, a wee touch of licorice, and a little touch of tobacco. Amazing as heck.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Canadian breakfast stout is another excellent example of how maple, coffee and bourbon barrel mixed together contributes to a fabulous barrel aged example. The notes of maple are strong but not over powering and the hint of chocolate, coffee and tobacco round out the balance. Hits your palate not too hot and not over powering as the 10.6% is well hidden. Another example of great bourbon based stouts. A must try, Cheers!

Having wanted this beer since I got into craft beer I was hyped to finally be able to try it. It is a good beer but I guess the hype and anticipation outweighed how good the beer is. Im glad I got to try it but wouldn’t give up my cellar for a bottle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ Deans Bomb Shelter Tasting, thnx to the crew for sharing! Pours a pitch black beer with a thin tanned head on top. Aroma of soy sauces, molasses, slight chocolate and some faint ground coffee in the back. Flavor is sweet, big influence of the syrup in there, Has a faint herbal note in the very back. Soft carbonation, long bittersweet aftertaste. Nice, but I’ve expected way more to be honest.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared at Kermis’ b-day bottleshare, thanks to Jeroen. First batch. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma is minty, chocolate, coffee, mocha, caramel. Taste is rather sweet. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Great, but the mint was a bit weird.
