Selected as a benchmark for the Beer Judge Certification Program used in all American based beer judgings. Centennial IPA has quickly become the IPA of choice. Pour yourself a pint of this complex flavorful ale and bask in the frothy head’s floral bouquet. Relish the immense citrus accents, achieved by the abundance of dry hopping. This ale’s sweet, malty undertones balance the hop character with a finish that never turns too bitter.

Bottle. Pours a nice hazy orange color, with a lot of yeast floaties, and a big frothy off white head. Aroma is of floral hops, caramel malts, soap, citrus and just the slightest amount of pine. The flavor is quite bitter, with a decent amount of floral hops and caramel and biscuity malts. I also get some soap, pine (more than in the nose), citrus (less than in the nose) and some resiny hops. The body is light to meduim, with a quite dry mouthfeel. Overall a good American IPA, that is way more malty that the average American IPA.

Sweet caramel nose with dark citrus hops, almost smells like rum. Appearance is translucent, unfiltered dark gold with creamy tan head. Flavor matches the nose, with a wonderful caramel malt backbone, Grassy, slight liquorish hop presence is perfectly balanced here. Palate is bubbly and creamy. Really, one of the most fantastic American beers that has touched my lips.

Bottle acquired via trade with Tanger...thanks Jon. Bright copper penny pour with a nicely formed 1/2 inch ivory head. Aroma is fruity, with candied citrus and a hint of pine. Flavor shows orange peel, caramel, and honey...a tad sweet but overall pretty well balanced. Ample carbonation.

355 ml bottle. Dark amber with reddish notes. Very small floaties. Thick creamy off-white head. Fruity and hoppy aroma with orange rind and lemon. Bitter hops, endives and grass. Meaty flavours with quite a bit of bitterness. Medium-bodied. Lots of hops and a lot of hop flavours. More orange zest and bitter lemon. Quite challenging to drink in amounts.

Bottle. Pours a light clear amber with a medium white head. Nose is a little sweet, big hit of hops - floral and citrus, some piney stuff too. Taste has some sweetness up front and a hit of floral hoppy bitterness supported on a big malt backbone. Great balance going on in this one, wonderful stuff. Finish is a long subtle sweet hoppy bitterness.

I love Centennial hops. Great rendition of what they can do for a beer, just not as good as Two Hearted and its all Centennial balance...

DalzAle (2003) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - MAY 28, 2010
Bottle. Clear pumpkin pour, little carbonation and nice hopy apricot nose. Flavor is bitter orange, sweet hops, vanilla and finished a little dry and long lingering bitterness. Well done beer, although still doesn’t beat Bells Two Hearted.

355 ml bottle. Clear copper body, no to very tiny head. Citrussy hoppy aroma. Has nice aroma, but there’s a hint of something not so pleasant in hoppiness. Surprisingly smooth palate, dry. Grapefuit with some malty sweetnees in backbone.

33 cl bottle. Pours honey/amber with a small and white head. Aroma is fresh, with floreal, piney and citrus notes. Taste is quite similar to the aroma and well balanced with hops malts, piney, floreal, fruity and citrus notes. Body is medium, with a dry finish.

12oz bottle. pours orange with medium off white creamy head. medium lasting foam. aroma is stunning: hoppy floral and spicy notes are sorrounded by an uncommon sweetness for the style. Lots of yeasty and malty notes for a simple IPA. Taste is great: lots of complexity with a spicy bitterness softened by a sweet sensation. Lots of grassy-spicy flavors. Alcohol is almost unperceivable. Body is quite full and carbonation a bit low for the style. Overall, a great IPA, way sweeter than usual IPAs, probably approaching to a lower-alcohol version of a DIPA. Anyway, wonderful.
