Selected as a benchmark for the Beer Judge Certification Program used in all American based beer judgings. Centennial IPA has quickly become the IPA of choice. Pour yourself a pint of this complex flavorful ale and bask in the frothy headís floral bouquet. Relish the immense citrus accents, achieved by the abundance of dry hopping. This aleís sweet, malty undertones balance the hop character with a finish that never turns too bitter.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2007 Bottle from1FastSTi. Clear golden/yellow color. Nice white head. The taste was of citrus hops and some malts. For some strange reason I tasted chocolate in the finish.

I love Founderís beers, Red Rye and Black Rye in particular. This IPA was not one of my favorites, as it is extremely grassy-tasting, reminiscent to me of Bellís Hopslam. It pours a red color with an abundant white head. It smells vaguely sour (at least for an IPA) with a cut-grass smell. The flavor is hoppy, but not in a sweet, citrusy, floral, or piney way. Instead, this hoppy taste is slightly sour and tastes a bit like cut-grass, like Bellís Hopslam. I didnít particularly care for this approach to an IPA, although I can see how others might feel differently. Mouthfeel was good...fine bubbles which denoted the feeling of softness and sophistication. I wonít be drinking this beer again, yet I would recommend it just because it is a bit unique.

The beer has a fuckin load of sediment floating around. It was pretty good, not as great as I was led to believe. Nice flavors, and hop aroma, but not as potent as some other, more favorable IPAs. Itís better than Harpoon, and a slew of other macro IPAís, but this couldnít even suck the Stone Ruinationís cock.

Huge bubbly pour. Hop and citrus aromas. I love IPAís but, not a fan of the Centennial Hop due to bitterness. Good but not great beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a bright orange-red color with lingering off-white head and good lacing thru the entire glass. Aroma was floral and grapefruit/citrus. Flavor was more citrus, and the finish was smooth, slightly bitter, and very hoppy. A good beer.

Pours with a lightly hazy, deep red-amber color and is topped by a frothy, yet thinnish, tan colored head that starts out about half a finger thick. The aroma is predominantly hop focused with leading, sweetish grapefruit like note. At times it even smells like candied orange peel, or even orange spice cookies. A bock drop of sweet caramelized malt character accentuate the citrus hop notes. There is also a touch of toasty, biscuit-like notes that add a hint of dryness to the nose.

The taste is tart up front, but more from the hop character than anything. A solid biting bitterness leaves a tingling sensation on my tongue. The beer seems to taste a bit murky for some reason, though I am not entirely sure yet if this is a bad thing or not. Dusty biscuit-like malt notes and a crystal malt character are in evidence as well. Actually the murky notes seem to stem from the malt character; it is just a bit much for this to work as a pure celebration of the Centennial hops. Not a bad beer certainly, but it could use some bright, clean, sweet malt notes to accentuate the hops a bit more. While the aroma ran towards the sweet side of the citrus hop spectrum, the flavor has more of a tart edge to it. Again it is a grapefruit note that dominates, but there is a touch of sour orange and perhaps even a slight tangerine note. A solid beer, and one which I certainly enjoy drinking.

Very good. well hopped. Quite dry and bitter and a bit more body than some of the top dry ipaís.

Hops flavor is apparent. Decent IPA, but the flavor falls a little flat for me.

Poured a fresh bottle into a glass and appeared reddish brown with a white head that dissipated quite quickily. Aroma was very citrusy and floral. The flavor seemed to have a nice balance between bitter, flavoring hops, and maltiness. Great ipa.
