Selected as a benchmark for the Beer Judge Certification Program used in all American based beer judgings. Centennial IPA has quickly become the IPA of choice. Pour yourself a pint of this complex flavorful ale and bask in the frothy headís floral bouquet. Relish the immense citrus accents, achieved by the abundance of dry hopping. This aleís sweet, malty undertones balance the hop character with a finish that never turns too bitter.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2006 Long over due for a rerate on this. Draft at Founders. Amber body with a light haze, off-white head forms a lasting cover and leaves nice lacing. This is served so cold that initialy the nose is very lacking, but as it warms lots of nice, fresh citrus show up. The flavor is lots of grapefruit and pine with a solid caramel backbone. Medium body, slightly sticky, bitter finish. Very nice.

Says on the bottle itís a dry-hopped unfiltered. Pours a moderate amber, slightly yellowish. Immediately notice how fizzy it appears to be, one of the only IPAís iíve seen with this much lacing. Head pours medium and lingers , itís slightly rocky and medium-to-large celled. Aroma is a nice mild mix of citrus and floral notes. Taste is nice, sweet citrus to begin with and ending with floral flavors on the nose. Moderate mouthfeel, not velvety smooth but not coarse. Very slightly fizzy, but not mouth-scouring. Not overly bitter, much more floral than bitter.

Dark amber with small head. Just a solid IPA. A little drier than most. Not to hoppy and I do not taste any strong fruit overtones but still somewhat complex.

dark orange color, lemon soap kitchen cleaner aroma. Bitter like gettin my mouth washed out with soap, decent but nothing stands out.

a hoppy yet bitter aroma, some soap and acid and sweat. maybe blood sweat and tears? anyways, flavor is orange, pine, grainy, bread and kind of a "light IPA" feel. easy to drink and not too exciting.

Frothy/creamy, off-white head with medium bubbles. Deep copper-orange body. Yeah, centennial, just...yeah, lots of it. Sort of a soapy smell as well. Bready also. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter flavor. Lightly sweet, moderatley bitter finish. Malt flavor is much lighter than Iíd prefer. Medium body, watery/thick texture, lively carbonation.

From the Founders that I have had, this wins. Simply smelling the "steam" coming out of the bottle after cracking it open told me this. This beer has an incredibly fresh hops smell to it. The head is decent, and hangs around for the first few sips. The color surprises me, as it hides the depth that the beer holds. To me, the water used for this beer really stands out. It is smooth and tasty, which usually can be traced to a beerís water. [takes a sip] "mmmm!" The body could use a little work, though that might detract from the smooth taste. I am just really impressed that they are able to make a beer on a somewhat large scale that retains the taste of fresh hops. Thumbs up to Founders for this one!

Thanks to JPDIPSO for this one. The pour is hazy dark copper/orange with a 2-finger off-white head. Aroma of malt, piney hops, citrus (orange, grapefruit), and some floral spices. The taste has a solid malt backbone with mid-palate hops, big citrus, some black pepper. As it warms, it gets tart, with emerging canteloupe and pineapple taste hints.

With a name like this I was sorta expecting to be hammered with hops. Not really the case, but then again, I donít have a problem with them being well used. Nice, fruity - grapefruity with a good balance of malt. Wish like hell I was able to either drink pints or bottle after bottle rather than sharing a 12 oz bottle. Sigh

Copper pour, small layer of creamy off-white head that settles in a tasty skim, and leaves some pretty lacing. Initial aroma is very soft, sweet flowery hops. Some lemon, but really subtle. More like lemon flower than lemon zest. A little bit of astringency as I continue to smell, but still a fragrant beer. Nice soft mouthfeel, with a gentle carbonation. Substanial hop presence in the flavor. Some chewy citrus rind quality. The malt/hop interaction is unusual. No sweetness up front--feels oddly absent in the front of my palate. Further back, a bit of malty sweetness, but all mixed up in the chunky quality of the bitterness. A decent but unexeptional IPA.
