3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 FlacoAlto (3155) - Tucson, USA - DEC 29, 2006
Pours with a lightly hazy, deep red-amber color and is topped by a frothy, yet thinnish, tan colored head that starts out about half a finger thick. The aroma is predominantly hop focused with leading, sweetish grapefruit like note. At times it even smells like candied orange peel, or even orange spice cookies. A bock drop of sweet caramelized malt character accentuate the citrus hop notes. There is also a touch of toasty, biscuit-like notes that add a hint of dryness to the nose.
The taste is tart up front, but more from the hop character than anything. A solid biting bitterness leaves a tingling sensation on my tongue. The beer seems to taste a bit murky for some reason, though I am not entirely sure yet if this is a bad thing or not. Dusty biscuit-like malt notes and a crystal malt character are in evidence as well. Actually the murky notes seem to stem from the malt character; it is just a bit much for this to work as a pure celebration of the Centennial hops. Not a bad beer certainly, but it could use some bright, clean, sweet malt notes to accentuate the hops a bit more. While the aroma ran towards the sweet side of the citrus hop spectrum, the flavor has more of a tart edge to it. Again it is a grapefruit note that dominates, but there is a touch of sour orange and perhaps even a slight tangerine note. A solid beer, and one which I certainly enjoy drinking.

Great friggin ipa, one that is often overlooked. Really killer citrusy aroma and flavor and a subtle malty sweetness that makes this one of the best year round supply ipas out there. Like too much.

I jar yet to be disappointed by a beer from beer from Founders. The Centennial IPA lives up to what an base IPA should be from a brewery of this caliber and more. Light amber color and robust floral aroma. Finishes clean and great with anything.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kryon (270) - SWEDEN - MAY 24, 2012
Pours amber with low to medium frizzy head
Distinct aromas of grapefruit, citrusy fruits and some caramel malts
Being a single hop ipa this is more complex than i thought it would be.
Starts out medium sweet with hoppy citrusy tones and moves over to a very bitter finish. Foundrs has once again proven that they can produce very good beers.

Smakrik och fyllig med en blommande arom som fyller gommen som avslutas med en angenäm beska som runda av det hela på ett fint sätt.

I had this one directly from a bottle - no beer glass available. Thus, I was not in a position to rate all qualities such as color, head, aroma, etc. Flavor is highly fruity - citrus, tangerine, grapefruit(?) Slight bitter aftertaste.

I have been dying to try this beer since I started enjoying IPA’s recently. It was good for sure, but wasn’t the best I’ve tried so far. I was expecting a bit more from other reviews so that probably added to my letdown.
Aroma like most good IPA’s is packed with hoppy citrus goodness and this beer certainly had a great aroma. Very floral. Smelled like spring flowers coming to bloom. Though not as citrus oriented as some others like Hopslam. It’s fresh and crisp like you’d expect.
Appearance was a beautiful deep copper color with a brilliant white head that quickly dissipated.
Taste was more hoppy and less sweet with some citrus and maybe a bit of tropical fruit like kiwi and pineapple. Even some lemongrass perhaps. It did have a bit of bitterness that never gave way and lingered. Not overwhelming, but more than they profess in their description. It’s a good IPA, but not Hopslam and for me, Goose Island’s IPA is a better beer.

Light amber with more the orange hues and a puffy white head. Big aromas of citrus, pine, pineapple, apricot, slight caramel. Flavors of apricot, citrus hops, pine, light caramel backbone. Slight trace of a smoky aftertaste, almost like oak from barrels but just a hint. Slightly sweet, a little resin, bitter, slightly balenced. Solid ipa!

12oz bottle dated 2/17/12 poured into tulip glass.
Aroma: grapefruit, malt, caramel, floral hops, a bit of chocolate
Appearance: clear, few bubbles rising, golden amber color. thin layer of white head that faded quickly
Taste: heavy sweet, mild sour, medium bitter
Palate: finish is very bitter and mild sour. carbonation is average. medium body and oily texture
Overall: This is too bitter for my tastes. Aroma is decent but the taste and palate aren’t pleasing to me. Huge malt backbone in this one. Will not buy again.

Bottle. Orange peel, pine and caramel malt aroma. Golden yellow color with small but resilient head. Sweet orange initially followed by a moderately strong bitter orange peel hops flavor. Body a bit light. Good but pretty average - malt subdued.
