Slightly reddish copper with a heat that is the whitest shade of pink. The aroma is very malty with sweet, candy-like cherries. The flavor starts out tart, becomes sweeter and also finishes a bit tart. Pretty clean finish with a touch of lingering cherries. Light body with moderate carbonation. A little two tart for my tastes.

A Sim rate (tap at Spitzer’s Corner, NYC): Malty, slightly cherry aroma. Bit of butterscotch and toffee that lets it down. Flavour has more fruit with obvious cherry - still butterscotch though. Pleasant enough to drink but nothing special. Wouldn’t bill it as a sour cherry beer.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 unclemattie (3244) - Georgia, USA - SEP 13, 2011
Short 12oz bottle. Orange-pink color, white head. Aroma of tart cherry with some fermented malt. Tastes of tart Hawaiian Punch and a touch of hearty wheat based ale. Cherry flavor is smooth, sweet , tart, and fermented all in the same sip. Seem to have a complexity to the ftuit character that makes me want to take another sip. Then another. And another. Then to the next bottle. Finishes dry, with an aftertaste of a well made cherry brew.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dimenhetfield (1663) - , Florida, USA - SEP 9, 2011
12oz bottle poured into a Founders snifter. Reddish tint with a dark amber hue. Aroma held a soft sweet cherry presence but not as much as I would have like. Flavor was a bit more appealing to me. Hints of cherry and light cream were straight up front with a nice smooth finish. Would love to try again.

Pours orange with a hint of red. Aroma of cherries and sweet malt. Taste of sweet cherries. Not too tart. Smooth finish. Just OK.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Summit Scandia Chalice.
Appearance: Clear amber-orange with a very light pink head that leaves just traces of lacing.
Aroma: Mild cherries that are both tart and sweet, with a very light malt backbone.
Taste: Tart cherries are the centerpiece here, but not too tart, as a nice semi-sweet counterbalance comes forth. The malts are present but hard to identify as they remain in the background. Virtually no bitterness at all.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium body. Slightly drying finish, but due to the tartness rather than what I typically think of as dry.
Overall: Refreshing and surprisingly well balanced between tart and sweet. Honestly, it is about time I find a cherry beer that is not shockingly tart or cloyingly sweet. Overall, this may be my least favorite Founders beer, but one of my favorite fruit beers, which I guess shows how much I love Founders but typically dislike fruit beers.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 savnac (1365) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - SEP 5, 2011
12 oz bottle from a BA trader. Amber/orange with a tiny off white head. Aroma of sweet and tart cherries with just a mild malt scent. The flavor is more sweet cherry and malt with a lightly tart finish. Light body with average to low carbonation and a crisp, refreshing mouth feel. Pretty great beer, lots of cherry presence without being to strong or sweet.

Pours amber with offwhite head. Aroma is all cherry and a hint of spice. Taste is sweet, tart and sweet finish. One of the better cherry beers I have enjoyed. Light and airy mouthfeel.
