4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle from Stori Beer & Wine, Bala. Pours deep rosy mahogany. Aroma is rich sweet malt. Taste is rich and complex with an intense, warming malt that refuses to let the booziness take the reigns. Impeccable, delicious old ale.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Reddish amber, thin uniform head. Plum aroma, very sweet. A bit overmalted, needs more balance...too sweet, fruity, mild caramel notes, no defined finish. I was waiting for something to turn the corner, didn?t.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(355ml 2015 bottle from Systembolaget) Pours a clear dark amber-red with just a few white bubbles. Aroma only moderately strong, caramel and brown sugar maltiness, clove, cinnamon, fruitcake, vanilla oak, hints of stewed dates/plums. Flavour sweet, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, dates, golden raisins, some spices and oak. Dries a fair bit at the finish, bitter, woody, with a bite from a bit of hops and some alcohol. Fairly light bodied with very soft carbonation. A fairly sweet but quite oaky strong ale, but not rich or unctuous like a barley wine or even like many old ales.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2015 bottling. Pours a clear reddish chestnut or very dark amber with a solid 2.5 fingers of frothy pale khaki head. Subdued aroma even at room temperature, hints of rich malt, wet carton, some chocolate, caramel and a hint of herbs. Difficult to find any boosieness, but I find the aroma very muted overall. Full bodied palate, towards the sweet side with a slightly dank resinous quality to it. Rich milk chocolate. Moderate bitterness, but very little boosieness. Very well made. Will be interesting to see if the aroma develops with some ageing.

Pours a dark amber brown, with a fluffy white head. Nose is oaky, molasses, musty, caramel. Flavor is lots of oak, molasses, caramel, toffee, a little citrus, plum. Sweet and almost ashy smoky finish. Medium to heavy body. Rich and warming, lovely oaky sweet flavor. Really nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark amber with thin or no head. Really sweet taste from the molasses and oak. Vanilla notes of oak. Not really a big fan of oak aged beer but in this it works very well. Guess the ABV supports the oakiness in a balanced way. Finish has a lot of malt and some light bitterness.
