deyholla (507), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 1, 2009 On tap at MBG Summer Festival. Poured a reddish hazy amber with a light brown head. Aroma was sweet throughout with barley notes. Began with sweet malts but dark notes as well as alcohol grew throughout. Quite thick on the tongue, slipy120 (64), Michigan, USA Aug 1, 2009 The aroma is strong of grain and you can smell the alcohol (seeing as this beer is 9.8% ABV that is normal). The color is almost red and the when poured there is a very small head that disappears almost immediately. It is sweet with a bitter finish but not as bitter of a finish as in stouts. Overall good beer and another reason I am happy to have Founders in town. Blaze312 (129), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jul 28, 2009 12 oz bottle from Founders. I love founders so its fitting that this is my 100 beer rating. Pours a dark orange color, almost brown. Aroma is very good I smell the alcohol, some barley, and some fruit hints. Taste sweet yet spicy. I’m feeling the alcohol in this one. It is very good. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark red body with slight haze and some very fine carbonation or sediment. The aroma is strong alcohol, malt, fruit. The flavor is consumed by malt and fruit, however there is a noticeable presence of alcohol. hayduke (1621), Eureka, California, USA Jul 26, 2009 From a 12 oz bottle this poured a very rich and dark amber with an off-white head and lots of lacing. Mouthfeel very slick and oily. Flavor is of sweet malt, ripe fruit, alcohol, and earthiness. Reminds me a lot of Old Stock from North Coast. A very nice brew. tedovertu (259), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jul 26, 2009 Heavy perfume resin hops mixed with a little butterscotch. Also taste a little bourbon. Small fizzy off white head that has virtually no lacing. Medium amber body. Slightly bitter with a little sour milk in the finish. Extremely long duration. Full bodied with an oily texture. Lightly astringent with soft carbonation. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jul 25, 2009 Slightly hazed deep amber pour. Dried fruit, brown sugar, caramel malt, and a hint of abv. Sweet malt, dried fruit, abv, and a good bitter. Medium bodied with good carbonation. ljay6880 (132), , Pennsylvania, USA Jul 24, 2009 12 oz bottle served in a tulip glass. Pour was a hazy brown with rusty highlights. The head was thin and white, which dissipated rather quickly, and left a small amount of lacing. Nose is malt, yeast, bread, barely, dark fruit, and alcohol. Taste is malt, earth, yeast, and plums with a slight hop bitter in the wet finish. This is a very delicious beer, especially if you are a connoisseur of big/heavy dark beers. This has all the wonderful characteristics of those styles, yet doesn’t weigh you down quite as much. This would be a great compromise for the warmer months, provided it wasn’t too hot outside.
