COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editor’s Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Poured a really pretty garnet colour with a whispy head. Malty nose. Boozy in the mouth but, not super hot.

Clear, dark amber. Small white head. Sweet malt aroma. Taste is malty, with wood and tobacco, well rounded. Malt and sweetness well balanced by the bitterness. Low carb, long finish, bitter and perhaps lightly sour.

Bottle from SJ. This brew had some complexities to it, but it was blended well. Nice notes of wood, caramel, sweet malt and hop. Definetely had some booze undertones to it.

StueyD (1110) - Heacham, Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2014
A mid amber orange coloured beer with a weak white head. A syrupy malt aroma, caramel, and a vinous, Port-like sweetness. A full-bodied mouthfeel. A huge, malt taste, vinous and raisiny, plus caramel and toffee. The alcohol makes an appearance, that tempers the sweetness with a refreshing sourness. The sweetness takes over again in the finish.

Appearance: Hazy copper/ruby with short lived thin ivory head. Aroma: Pine, syrup, treacle, fig. Taste: Medium sweet, low bitter and sourness. Palate: Thick smooth texture, light body, low/average carbonation, butterscotch, vanilla, treacle, fig finish with an alcohol warmth. Comments: Very tasty.

maneliquor (2995) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAR 5, 2014
Bottle from Mane Liquor. All hail the cumdungeon. Clear amber pour with a slightly sticky beige head. Nose is full of coconut, deep molasses and caramel. Seems very oaky with plenty of silly sweet vanilla. Taste is sticky toffee, honeycomb, molasses, vanilla and light coconut. Plenty going on. Fair kick of heat to finish with. Quite sticky sweet. Very solid

Davros (1859) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 2, 2014
Pours dark copper with a large off-white head. Nose shows vanilla oak notes, sweet rich molasses, chocolate malt, hazelnut and sweet caramel. Similar woody and vanilla oak characters as flavours alongside some light roasted malt, booze and heaps of sweet syrupy malt. Nice moderate carbonation and syrupy body.
