This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editor’s Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Dark amber appearance, cloudy and presence of little bubbles (carbonanation), presence of floating sediments. On nose dry dark fruits like raisin, plum, oak, strong caramel and a deep sweetness, alcohol. On mouth it is fullbodied and dry, malty, hints of fruits, caramel, toffee, woody. Bitter and dry aftertaste.

Dark amber with a nice pillowy tan head. On the nose aromas of leather, sweet malt, alcohol and barnyard develop. Light slick in texture with a full body tasting medium sweet with notes of bitterness at the back of the palate. The finish lingers pleasantly on the tongue for a pretty good while. Nice Ale!

Has a malty aroma, with light hints of fruit. Feels heavy like molasses, and has a lightly sweet molasses and malty flavor. There is a hint of bitterness at the end. Very enjoyable, complex ale.

on draft. poured a dark ruby red color with a bubbly white head that quickly dissipated. the aroma of lots of sweet deep malts was forefront on the nose. maybe some dark fruit adjuncts in there are well. the flavor with the alcohol well hidden was sweet malts and fruits and very smooth.. no bitterness bite at all. deceptively good.

Deep amber color with a nice little off-white head. Had some floating yeast sediment; not just little specks, but a big goober that I spooned out of my glass. Was a little turned off but the beer tasted fine so I marched on. Sweet aroma, great taste and a sweet finish. This was from a 2013 batch, can’t wait to see what a little more time does to the rest of them.

Creamy dark amber, almost red liquid. Virtually no head. High sediment present. Aroma is caramel, alcoholic, corn, sugar; rich, complex and powerful. Palate is full, creamy. Low carbonated. Finish is very warm, nively bitter, long and powerful. Taste is sugar, alcohol, caramel; leaves a lovely warming sensation.

2/11/2010. From bottle. Pours light orange with a short white head. Aromas of light malt, fruit and some caramel. Sweet malty flavors with fruit showing well. The high alcohol content is muted. Very good.

Dark golden colour, with very little head. Big sticky date pudding aroma, chocolates and caramel, golden syrup and liquor. Drinks like syrup, thick and caramel. Sweet candied fruits, apricots and orange. A nice bitter sweet hop finish, a little pine and citrus. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Couleur ambre clair, reflets oranges.
