GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA May 15, 2009 Thanks to Cheeseman. This might be one of my favorite old ales. Pours thick and dark with a dark fruit, brown sugar and bourbon nose. Flavors are more of the same. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 13, 2009 12oz shorty bottle. Thick orange brown color, not much head to speak of. Malty aroma, quite deep, not unlike a Dopplebock or Barleywine. As the descriptor notes, very well balanced despite the in your face strength. Bourbon begins to shine through after a few sips, as does the alcohol. A very nice Old Ale, never syrupy or undrinkable. Birdiebeagle (779), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2009 Bottle Pours a good hazy amber with a small tan head. The head last fairly well for being thin. Lacing is good. Aroma is honey and a big presence of alcohol. Almost has a whiskey like aroma. Has a light carbonation. A good mouthfeel. The flavor is well blended and the alcohol aroma doen’t hold up the alcohol is well hidden. Has a full body. A real good finish and a good aftertaste. This is a good beer, a touch strong but a good beer. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA May 8, 2009 Certainly a musty dusty vibe which gives credence to the old ale term, but this cardboardy yeasty brew has a unique dusty honeyed touch which is rather unique and appealing. A meaty, brothy brew to imbibe, this guy has the makings of a nice afterdinner warmer, which provides both a candied, medicinal touch as well as an oaky vineous landscape. A nice brew for sure and a nice drinking experience as well. Jsawyer (282), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA May 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours beautifully turbid sunburst amber with a half inch of tan foamy head - it takes awhile to form since the body is so heavy. Aroma is wonderfully floral hoppy, orange, licorice, dark fruits, bready, caramel, alcohol, spicy hops. Flavor is really malty at first, then it lightens up into dark fruits, some licorice, orange, banana, spicy hops, vanilla, and alcohol. Palate is nicely heavy and has a lot of sediment. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA May 4, 2009 Bottle at Butters Big Cellar Blowout. Pours an off-white head with an amber body. Caramelized malt aroma. Flavor is similar. Finish is well-balanced with a cotton candy note. shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Apr 27, 2009 pours hazy amber with a beige head that quickly dissapears to leave a thin layer of lace. slightly creamy mouthfeel. malty, bourbon, caramel. alcohol. sweet dark fruit. AtlAggie (131), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 24, 2009 Pours a murky orange, with a tiny tan head. Aroma is sweet, darkly fruity, roasted malts. Flavor follows suit, almost suggesting a barleywine, with sweet malts, toffee, and strong fruit tones (subtle citrus, apricot). Finishes with earthy notes, slight smoke and peat. Interesting, although not something I’m eager to drink too often. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden for such a big beer.
