zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA Mar 2, 2009 Taste 3/9 Bottle. Looks: Brown murk with a trace of bubbles around the rim. Aroma: Bourbon and sweet malts, some alcohol and mild raisin. Taste: Rich and sweet followed by bourbon and spice with a bit of hops an the finish. flyerdog (7), Ardmore Park, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Mar 1, 2009 I found this to be very complex...when cold it hits you with a light hoppy taste followed by a deep smoky body..the finish is dry and whole. As it warms the smokiness gets lighter and the hops are much more pronounced throughout..pretty amazing actually! Good stuff ealdent (44), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Feb 28, 2009 Beautiful reddish brown with little lacing. Sweet and malty but still some complex, woody flavors. Enjoyable to sip, getting richer as it warms. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Feb 20, 2009 Ap: A cloudy dark orange with some floaties. Aro: Faint whiffs of caramel, dried fruit and chocolate. Taste: Chocolate, GUMMIBEARS and bitter hops. Mouthfeel: Thick and syrupy. Overall: Non offensive yet non impressive. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Feb 19, 2009 Copper and cloudy with a good sized beige head. Aroma is of toffee, fruit and a little alcohol. Taste is of caramel, malt and toffee. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Feb 16, 2009 Thanks to dmac for this 12oz bottle. Aromas of molasses, vanilla with some flavors of malt, alcohol, and some caramel sweetness. Very good on a cold rainy wintery day in San Diego. Paired this with my homemade clam chowder. TearsforBeers (171), Ohio, USA Feb 15, 2009 Pours out hazy red orange amber with disappearing white head - looks just great. Smells fruity, sweet malty, light hops, probably some Munich malt, and maybe some German hops. The flavor is very sweet, there’s something sour here, bitterness, prunes, coffee, bitter hop finish. Mouthfeel is sweet and syrupy. Overall, a good brew, but apparently old ales aren’t my favorite style. Hugerat (432), somerville, Massachusetts, USA Feb 14, 2009 Pale, cloudy brown color with practically no head. I know this is the way the beer is supposed to look, but I’m taking points off anyway. Aroma of toffee, vanilla, molasses and dried fruit. The vanillin from the oak really comes through on the flavor with tons of toffee and molasses. Nice sticky mouthfeel. Sweet on the palate, but not cloying. A fantastic beer.
