Commercial Description:
This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editor’s Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Bottle from Three Floyd’s Brewpub. I think my palate was pretty much gone at this point, but it tasted a little thin and fizzy. Will try again with a fresh palate.

Bottle courtesy TheCheeseman. Dark brown pour with a thin off white head. Big caramel malt, toffee aroma with hints of earthy hops. Very bold caramel malt, earthy hop taste with hints of fruit. Alcohol is hidden well, very smooth and english BW like.

Bottle. Glorious orangish pour. Very small head. Aroma is very interesting. I got some fruit notes, syrup and good malt. Flavor is very unique with some spices, fruit, sweetness and yeast. Damn good. I would like to be able to drink this on a regular basis.

Cloudy orange/copper color with a small head. No retention. Aroma of bourbon, brown sugar and vanilla. Taste has a little dark fruit along with the sweet brown sugar, bourbon and vanilla. Also some sourness throughout, maybe close to peaches. Just a little warm. Very nice.

Pours a very hazy brown, with a great off-white head. Big aroma, lots of peat, caramel, sweet malts. A classic Founders complexity, lots of varting fruit tastes underlying behind the main malt character. Sweet, but not cloying, strong, but not boozy. Nutty finish... pick it up, if you can find it!

12oz bottle thanks to TURDFERGUSON. Pours a cloudy, dark amber with no head whatsoever. Nose of roast malt and hint of peat. Taste is of roast malt and some fruit. Mouthfeel is creamy with alcohol warmth noticeable.
