Jan 17, 2009 The aroma is complex with butterscotch, sour-tropical fruit, caramel, oak, and a touch of peat. The appearance is dark amber with a medium head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thick. Overall this is a very good beer.

Jan 17, 2009 Thanks bro! Pours a ruby color with lots of particulate and a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a few streaks of lacing. Aroma is caramel, butterscotch, dough, some alcohol, and dark fruits. Taste is thick, caramel malts, raisins, and figs. Finishes with a bit of alcohol burn.

Jan 16, 2009 12 oz bottle pours a glowing red with a beige creamy soapy head. Caramel malts doughy and rich with alcohol. Fruity malt flavors. Red fruits, apples, cherries, with strong alcohol following through. Finishes with a charred peaty bitterness that’s dry and lingers. The charred bitterness is intense yet not overdone. Tasty beer.

Jan 16, 2009 Draft at Capone’s: Poured an orange/reddish color with a small head. The aroma was sugary dark fruits. The flavor was raisins, grapes, plums and sweet malts which hides the alcohol well. Overall, an excellent beer by Founders.

Jan 14, 2009 Bottle. Huge citrus and caramel apple aroma. Cloudy orange-amber body, small tan head. Flavor is caramel malt, pineapple, and spices. Alcohol is present also, especially in the finish which is distinctly like bourbon.

Jan 13, 2009 Sampled at tronraner’s Xmas Eve^3 tasting. Clear orange amber pour with minimal offwhite head. Aroma of sweet honey and alcohol. Dark fruits, plum flavors. Alcohol on the finish. Not overly impressed, but still a very drinkable big boy.

Jan 11, 2009 Bottle generously shared by theisti. This is the one Founders brew that I have been wanting to try but have never been able to find in my travels throughout the Midwest. So, thank you for sharing it with me, Tim. :)
Pours a cloudy reddish-orange with a ton of suspended sediment and patchy off-white lace. The nose is an interesting fruity blend of pineapple, caramel, craisins and lighter notes of brown sugar and alcohol. Medium to full-bodied and oily with fine carbonation and a dry, moderately bitter resinous finish. The flavor is of round malt and woody tobacco notes with a resinous finish; absolutely nothing like the nose.This is a decent big beer, but the nose and flavor are about as far apart from one another as I can imagine them being, and I had really been hoping for a bit more from this beer.
