4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a 12oz bottle. Pours a deep amber color, with thin white head. Aroma is molasses, a bit of spiciness. Notes of caramel, sweet molasses, vanilla, slight alcohol burn. Oaky finish. Has a rather light body, light carbonation. I am enjoying this at the moment but I think it will be better with some age.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from the bottle into a dark foggy red color with a thin off white head. Has a dark fruit aroma black cherries and alcohol. A slight spiced syrup flavor towards the end. Heavy carbonation. Very drinkable for the abv on the higher end. An interesting beer overall. Also paired really well with my blackened catfish. Good stuff.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from bottle into snifter, little to no head, clear deep ruby orange in color, boozy aroma. Definately tastes like most old/strong ales I've had with a smokey and sweet touch. Not bad, not chuggable, should come with a cigar.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an almost clear deep amber, with a small off-white head.
Rich, complex aroma, caramel, malt, molasses, wood, vanilla, dried fruit, hops, fudge, candied sugar.
Off-dry, medium to full bodied, mid bitterness, creamy CO2.
Complex, balanced taste, caramel, vanilla, wood, candied sugar, nuts, fudge, hops, tannins.
Wonderfully balanced and complex. I wonder what a few years’ ageing will do to this beer? (2014-07-22)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rcvd in trade.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice hazy amber color with just a film of lacing that quickly died and left a bubbliness of sorts along the sides of the glass.
The smell has a really nice oaky bourbon aroma letting in some light vanilla to entangle itself throughout. There was some light cherries at the end.
The taste was sweet and had a touch of hot from the strength of the beer.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with not much of a sessionability about it. I sipped it for the most part. The carbonation was super smooth almost as if it wasn’t there at all, but I could tell it was slightly there.
Overall, I could be wrong but the last time I had something from Founder’s, I thought they would stamp the bottle with a born on date in green. There was no date to be found. Honestly, I’m not too worried but think I may have gotten an older bottle due to the slight lack of strength of the booze and the subdued carbonation. If anything, this one aged was absolutely excellent and definitely welcome this again and see if I could get a fresh bottle just to compare.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep amber pour with no real head. Dark caramel, burnt brown sugar, dried fruit aromas. Sweet, caramel fudgey taste, toffee, vanilla, dried fruit, woody flavours. Not boozy, really well balanced. This was great, and even better as it warmed up slightly

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
BOD 4/13/13. Pours a deep amber with a heavy deep dark ruby hue. Weak head and lacing due to the alcohol content. Heavy nose of dark malt (caramel), molasses and dark fruit sweetness over alcohol with bourbon and oak notes. Light carbonation. Almost full bodied with a nice smooth creamy texture. The complex flavor profile is well balanced. It begins with sweet dark fruit flavors (fig, plum and raisin) which flow into a significant bourbon element. As the bourbon fades, oak and vanilla present themselves over a molasses note. The finish is smooth and leaves you with a light alcohol burn and a touch of hops. This is the Olde Ale standard, IMHO.
BOD 4/13/12. Similar head, but hazy with flocculants. The nose is similar, but quite subdued. Bourbon is the most prevalent while the dark fruits have receded. Same body and carbonation. Like the nose, flavors have also gone downhill. Age has decomplexed the flavor profile. While still outstanding, it just doesn’t reach out and grab you. Everything is there, but in a subdued fashion and more of a blended presentation rather than a progression on the palate. On it’s own, I would give the aged version a 4.1.
