This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editorís Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2015 Beautiful aroma of eggnog, cinnamon, toffee, white chocolate fudge, vanilla horchata, brown sugar, old leather, and booze. The pour is deep amber with no head. The taste closely mirrors the aroma, being mostly sweet and mildly bitter, with a splash of alcohol. The finish leans dry and woody, with a slight oaky tartness that dies slowly. Syrupy palate with minor, prickly carbonation. Balanced, flavorful, substantial. Perfect for a winter evening by the fireplace. Oh, Founders, how I love you. Lovely!

355ml bottle. Best sugars I ever smelt in a beer. Very good old ale example. Perfectly balanced. Far away from barley wine. Perfect on all of the stages. I actually had it in US several years ago, and now revisiting it brings back good memories.

Pours mahogany with a small beige fizz. Smells malty, caramel, toffee, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is sweet, malty, toffee, and soft red fruits. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale finishes with a soft candied fruit sweetness.

35,5cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks! Pours clear deep amber with an off-white head. Malty and caramelly aroma with notes of wood, vanilla, spices and bourbon. Sweet and caramelly with nice, but somewhat strange spicy notes and a certain bitterness. Too much on the sweet side, but still quite interesting.

Smells like butter! Tastes like buttered rum slightly. Nice cloudy orange amber color. Flavor reminiscent of a Belgian in it's yeastiness. Yes it's near 10%

Sweet maltiness and syrupy texture in a black as night brew. Very potent stuff. I think the name should be changed to "GET OFF MY LAWN!"

355ml bottle at home. Canít remember where from, but was bottled April 2012. Pours amber, with a surprising amount of black floaters. Given itís been sat in a cupboard for three months I thought any sediment might have settled. Clearly not. Thin ring of white head. Aromas of sticky toffee pudding, marmalade at the back, light booze note. Taste is toffee, nuts, boozy, almost dark sherry. Sweet finish, as expected.
