I expected to love this beer. Oak aged an molasses in beers I something I enjoy. I feel like it falls short of my expectation. The molasses is a bit overwhelming and it almost makes it somewhere between bitter and sour. I would say it tastes like a Wake Up Dead that went sour. Still better than most but not what I was expecting.

Bottle from archer road beer stop, sheffield. Pale copper with small white head. Nice syrupy smell, lots of malt, bread and caramel. Sweet and strong with good balanced bitterness and warmth. Oily medium body and nice subtle carbonation. Very drinkable, a considerable achievement at this strength.

Appearance is small white head with hazy orange color. Aroma is sweet with some of that oak aging. Taste is spice with sweet malt with hints of the oak aging. Overall pretty good, but not great.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours slightly blurry, red to brown in appearance, no head. Smell is very pleasant! First a sweet floral scent, followed by a slight hoppy note. It finishes with a sour smell. After a while, the oak smell really kicks in. A very interesting aromatic mixture. Taste is very bourbon-like at first taste. Low carbonation only ephasizes the whiskey like note and makes it an unique beer. Excellent beer!

Pours a hazy amber with a thin head. Huge aroma of honey with some mild spice. Tastes sweet with lots of clover honey, vanilla, toffee, caramel, and light spicy hops. 50 IBU of bitterness is totally balanced beneath the malty sweetness. Very good! Nice honey flavor comes through with sweetness and balance. Slight warming of alcohol, but the 9.8% is hidden well. Another fantastic beer from Founders!

33cl bottle served in a Prearis glass. Pours dark orange/light amber with an impressive bubbly off white head. Aroma is of butterscotch and oak with a hint of vanilla. Taste is a little too sweet but not cloying. Complemented the (Chimay) cheese I was eating at the time perfectly but I would suggest a little on the sweet side for enjoying by itself. An impressive array of flavours with the maltiness and barrel notes giving way to the flavours promised in the aroma. Very good but could be better.
