COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editor’s Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Hazy red pour. Thin white head. Nose is of floral pears and apples in oak. Taste is round, hiding a bit of tartness from the straight oak aging. Finish is long and on the side of the tongue continuing on the sweet tart side of things. This is an a gratifying sipper.

Bottle from the Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Pours deep amber with a thin off white head. Aroma of pear drop and alcohol. The taste starts sweet with banana, caramel, pear drop, light spice, vanilla and some woody notes. Warming alcohol. Very tasty.

Tap. Insanely beautiful lacing. Faint nose of lightly sweet nose. Full body. Tastes of spices -- almost a Christmas ale with nutmeg, allspice. Touch of orange. ABV not overwhelming in taste profile.

Nose is intense plum/prune/vinous/synthetic cherry. Flavor is same... Oddly fruity for the style with caramelized/burnt sugar in background. Caramel cough syrup? Wtf

It has a decent body with nice fruits and a particularly grape skin flavor to it. The bitter hops arrive toward the finish and linger a while. It's similar to North Coast's Old Stock Ale, but to me it's not quite as good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Poured a hazy dark amber with a cream head. Taste of caramel malts, biscuit, slight oak, with a boozy finish. Lively carbonation, full molasses body. Final thoughts: My Grandpa was a curmudgeon too...crusty old bastard
