4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Lightly chilled:Kasteel glass. Great looking dark orange/brown liquid. Small creamy, head. Very slow rising bubbles and nice, lacing. Overall earthy aroma. Caramel based aroma with wood, soil, light hops and tasteful alcohol. Texture is very soft, almost light, though this is a thick beer. Upfront caramel, wood, fruit, and soil. Before the finish is more wood, caramel, and a little alcohol on the sides of the mouth. Finish is long with light earthy hop, with strong caramel, wood, toast, and light alcohol. After opening up a bit, becomes a very well put together, mellow, but flavorful and interesting shot at the old ale style. Very Respectable

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Just shy of cool and into a tulip. Misty russet orange with very little carbonation. Sloppy, shortlived mess atop manages a little lace. Twiggy, acridly bitter herbs tickle the olfactories with a good breath of oak, vanillin, molasses, butter, soy milk (?) and just a touch of caramel. Boozy and sweet with a tang that twists the mouth into a spasm. Bitter, sharp backend with a finish that is like sucking on a toothpick. Hot alcohol burns all the way down. Oaky, molasses notes are rough and rugged whilst it is buttery and oily in mouthfeel. Linger of vanilla bean. Smoke and rubbery phenols just add to the chaos. No integration of flavour but plenty of flavour to be seen. Iíd like to say it was interesting to drink but at all enjoyable. One to lay down for a few years me thinks. 3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, well retained, ivory head, with extensive lacing, over a dark amber (SRM 15) lightly particled body.....nose is treacle, with light plum, golden raisin, lightly vinous, hints of oak......taste is lightly sweet with tones of toffee/caramel, light fruits including plum, fig, lightly nutty, finishing dryer, with light bitterness and oak.....mouth feel medium, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low with light acid. Rich, nourishing, warming, complex, make this a classic example of the style. The only flaw is the particle laden body, but how was it stored? BJCP 9/1/16/5/8

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark amber with a nice pillowy tan head. On the nose aromas of leather, sweet malt, alcohol and barnyard develop. Light slick in texture with a full body tasting medium sweet with notes of bitterness at the back of the palate. The finish lingers pleasantly on the tongue for a pretty good while. Nice Ale!
