COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editor’s Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Pours a deep, coppery orange with practically no head. Looks just beautiful in the glass. Minimal lacing. A sweet, aroma of brandied fruit, oak, vanilla, and leather. Taste is quite sweet, with an even mix of maltiness and alcohol that does call bourbon to mind (albeit far more drinkable). Mouthfeel is slightly thick with a light, fizzy carbonation. Despite the high alcohol content, there is a rather tame finish to this beer, deceptively masking its potency. In sum, a fine beer that will appear to those who love scotch ales, old ales, and barleywines due to its oak-aged nature and alcoholic sweetness.

On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Poured a hazy dark amber with a cream head. Taste of caramel malts, biscuit, slight oak, with a boozy finish. Lively carbonation, full molasses body. Final thoughts: My Grandpa was a curmudgeon too...crusty old bastard

Bottled 1/13/2015. Lightly chilled. 12 oz bottle into tulip. Fairly dark but transparent amber in color with quarter inch white to off white head. Malty aromas of caramel, bread and cereal. Taste is malty, light to moderately sweet. Notes of oak, nuts and earthy yeast. Some hinting notes of vanilla. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Light carbonation. Lightly bitter finish. Interesting beer. Not bad. Not at the top of my list. Not familiar with the style.

Founders always had a way to make you buy more. I can only handle one at a time of this baby due to the thickness and abv. Good sweetness and spice which is balanced with hops

Reddish dark brown. Oak aged in whiskey barrell, so taste of vanilla, with woody whiskey flavour and cane sugar. Strong alcohol note, so perfect for winter time.

Best before 27/12/2014. The Bottle enjoyed at cosmic café in turku. Oak aged, whiskey, vanilla, woody,... Amberish color, reddish light brown. Taste is sweet and aromatic with whiskey flavour and sweetness of cane sugar. Strong in alcohol but warming and nice to be enjoyed in front of the fire place in winter time..

Bottle shared by rosskyle. Consumed during the Final Four. Minimal head on an amber/copper colored old ale. Aroma is sweet with bubblegum and tropical fruit. The sweetness surprisingly kind of disappears as the taste sip begins. Alcohol presence, little peat, and an underlying sugary quality as it progresses. Caramel and molasses. Finishes with an element of bitterness with a last second rush of sugar. Overall it has a higher alcohol double IPA feel to it. Very satisfying. Like a curmudgeon who has consumed his fair share of Werthers.
