5/31/10. hazy, still, no head. it pours the color of a dark porter. big sweet brown sugar nose... mixed with vanilla, cinnamon spiciness, english style hoppiness, tingly alcohol, slight umami and a touch of sour fruit. the flavor shows more barrel than the aroma does.... medicine pills, dates, wood, cocoa and bourbon with a boozy drying finish. the mouth feel is slick, dead still and therefore a bit sticky. alcohol and spiciness help clean it up. 8/4/7/3/16/3.8

This is what a real beer is. It has major bourbon, tons of coffee, loads of vanilla and massive molasses. Delicious and tasty. One of the best brews EVER! If you like complex, this is your beer! If you are into Lambics or lights, stay away and beware!

Almost a black pour with barely any head. Aroma is sweet and loaded with vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar and toffee. Flavor is sweet and boozy. Some caramel, toffee, brown sugar and maple syrup. Damn fine brew.

after reading the other reviews, i do have to say this is rather like a black nemesis. nice back pour with an ample brown head, late rising, some cascading, good retention and appears with a minimal swirl. the aroma is sweet, lager yeast notes, a hint of bourbon, heat, some bitter roasty malts. the flavor has a big roastyness, a strong syrypy wheat wine sweetness, and a strange array of spicy and sweet flavors. the maple and bourbon are both there, but def do not overpower this juggernaut in any way, in fact, they add quite nicely in this as they do to most other brews they put in those barrels. the palate is super rich and creamy, but i had to stay at 4 due to a slight lingering syrypyness. this is def better than nemesis, its, hot, but the abv is hidden better, and the flavor profile is a bit more balanced. not their best brew ever, but yet another 4+ from Founders.

This is the only one of the night that was not a fan fave. poured nice dark brown, with some foam, nose was only slight, inky and boozy with a little bourbon oakyness, flavor was kind of cloying and kind of a mish mash with nothing making it work together. good effort but missing something

This poured a very dark brown color with an off white head. Aroma was of lots of bourbon, some maple, burnt toffee and dark fruits. Flavor was all over the place in a good way, a good bit of bourbon, brown sugar, maple, alcohol, some yeastyness, all melded together very well. Tasted to me a like a darker more bourbon Nemesis.

On tap at black party 2010. Black body with small beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, sweet bourbon, maple, and huge toffee. Flavor reminds me of nemesis with loads of malt. Lots of lactose, chocolate, alcohol, bourbon, maple. Like nemesis, a very hot finish.
