COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tenth Anniversary Ale A generous malt bill, ten hours in the kettle, a touch of hops, twice fermented with a blend of American and Belgian yeast strains, then conditioned with a delicate blend of spices. Deca exemplifies ten years of brewing and experimentation at Founders. Thank you for letting us do what we do best.

Bomber. Thanks, BitBucket! Deep grainy brown with caramel highlights. Headless, laceless, just a bit of grey film for a head. Huge roast, caramel, and toffee nose. Smells like candy bars being baked. Body’s big, but not sticky or oily. Toast, nuts, caramel, toffee on the mid-palate. Long nutty finish.

Pours a very thin white head that quickly dissipates into a clear medium brown body. Aroma of malt and alcohol. Sweet & fruity with very low carbonation. Alcoholic.

This is a strange bird. First off, it tastes like Speedway, but is an Herb/Veggie. Very odd. Second, it has a finish that’s distinctly beetish in trace amounts. But unusually like a stout.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2008 22 oz. brown bottle, the ABV is listed as 13% in the lower left hand corner of the label, sampled in a snifter. L: Woody amber with a thin pale tan head of sudsy foam that settled into a bubbly ring, fair amount of splotchy lace dots circle the glass. S: Caramel, toffee, toasted grains and biscuits, dates, figs and raisins, hints of earthy nuts and spices, this has a rich malt and yeast profile. The hops are there in equal measure, citrus and lavender minty. The alcohol has an estery solvent quality. F&T: Syrupy malty body that is give some light creaminess from the carbonation. Rich tasting malts and yeast with a robust hoppiness, there is no denying that this is a big American ale. Clove flavored licorice, caramel toffee, hints of cocoa, raisin bread and dates, with an raw earthy nuttiness coming out in the end. Delectable hop tastes of grapefruit and pineapple, oily pine needles and minty, flowery herbs. The hops become mildly spicy in the finish, helping to dry out the sweet malty finale. The alcohol has a noticeable fruity, spicy warmth in the palate, but it’s true strength is well concealed. This is dangerously easy to drink, making this a cautious sipper. This is now my favorite release from Founders, an excellent and highly enjoyable beer.

Thanks to Styles. Wow what a beer. Very surprised at this, for it was very thick and syrupy. Taste was strong malt and some spices. No head to speak of Almost a dark burgandy color. Very nice beer

I’ve had this bottle for a few months now. I didn’t know what to expect. I ordered it because it’s Founders, and it’s a beer Founders won’t do a lot of. But Spice/Herb/Vegetable? Not usually what I go for. The beer, though, doesn’t taste like a spiced or vegetable beer. It has rich caramel/sweet flavors to it. Strong ale/Grand Cru kind of sweetness. Very malty. High alcohol taste. It’s not as "different" as I expected, but it does taste like what usually passes for an anniversary ale, a kind of Batch (some number) that is a very strong ale. Nice.

22 oz bomber. Pours a dark, slightly hazy ruby amber with a creamy medium sized beige head. Aroma of sweet ginger, candied malts and spices. Taste is sweet with a strong ginger presence and hints of malt and spices. Not bad.

Got this on my whirlwind tour of Great Lakes breweries at the Founders Brewpub. It was served in a goblet which showed off it’s beautiful red body nicely. There was a bit of head around the edges, but not much to speak of really. The aroma was very spicy with a pronounced sweet maltiness behind the spice. I got an almost rye character but it might have been the hops. The flavor is pretty heavily malty but with a bunch of spice in it. The bittering from the hops compensates nicely and there is almost a belgian character to it. The flavor is pretty smooth for 13% ABV and medium bodied. Pretty good drinkability considering the strength.
