Cloudy, almost golden amber color. Nose is spicy, heavy on the pumpkin pie spices. Flavor is big time malty and sweet, I will admit that is not my favorite, but has a kind of cool funk that makes for an interesting drink. Would be interesting to see what a year of aging would do this beast.

Courtesy hopscotch. Thanks for sharing another rare one Eric! Pours a slightly hazy amber with almost no head. Smells a little bit spicy, a little caramel, a little nutmeg, a little clove. Interesting blend of aromas. The taste is really wierd. Kind of a strong caramel flavor with a hint of some sourness. A little bit bitter, with a funky aftertaste. Pretty malty, and a little syrupy on the palate. Interesting beer, seemed to be all over the place, and hard to knock down a label to this brew.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2007 On tap at founders for their 10th. Huge taste and smell. Just a big beer all around. Might have to grab a few of these for a good sunday buzz for a poker game. at 13% it wont be to hard.
cellared for about 6 months:
the vegetable notes have come through more as well as some caramel. i believe it was spicier than it is now. and the alcohol taste has died down a little.

On tap at Founders. Poured a cloudy orangish-brown with minimal beige head. The aroma is huge in this beer with big spice and sugar. Taste was quite hot, but I can’t wait to try it in a year or so.

Had this on tap at the founders anniversary party. Would like to try this in another year or so. Poured a cloudy brown orange color. Smelled big, tasted even bigger. Caramel, dark fruits, candi sugar, and most of all a lot of spice. Once all these flavors meld together and the spice dies down a little, this will be an amazing beer.

founders 10th aniniversary party...ruddy orangish-body with small beige head..aroma is huge in sugary malts (big in caramel and brown sugar)..the body was very similar but had more of a toasted malt feel than a syrupy sweet one..a silphium noted, it certainly has a candied quality to it...alcohol is present in the finish...it really reminded me of Bell’s Eccentric Ale (however, i found this one to be more quaffable)...well done!

On tap at Founders 10th Anniversary Party. Realizing this beer turned some people off with its brashness and green nature, I still enjoyed it. Murky orange-brown body, topped by a medium creamy tan head. Aroma of sweet brown sugar and caramel, accentuated by ginger. Sweet, toasty body, with brown sugar and caramel, residual sugars and candy, and strong ginger notes. Green apple too. Alcohol was subdued (perhaps my palate was subdued, too). Creamy, dense palate. Sometimes the brash, young beers suit my palate perfectly, as this one did. I will revisit in a year or two after sampling a cellared bottle. Congratulations to Founders and their immense achievements over the past 10 years; I would have never predicted such success after sampling a few of their beers (which I did enjoy) for the first time in 2001.
