Commercial Description:
Tenth Anniversary Ale A generous malt bill, ten hours in the kettle, a touch of hops, twice fermented with a blend of American and Belgian yeast strains, then conditioned with a delicate blend of spices. Deca exemplifies ten years of brewing and experimentation at Founders. Thank you for letting us do what we do best.

(Bottle) Pours a cloudy deep amber-brown body with a spare beige head. Aroma of lightly sour Belgian yeast, white grape, toffee, biscuit, some floral, and cherry. Flavor of hot rum, sour fruit, apple, toffee, and butterscotch. The excessive alcohol bite takes a way from the flavor.

Rating #100 for Deca! Bottle. As I pop the cap after cellaring this for a while in the basement, I’m pretty excited to see what this one is all about. Aromas are immediately satisfying and reminiscent of some of the better barley wines I’ve tried... you know, that thick, sweet sticky smell from too much brown sugar and candi sugar and maybe a touch of molasses. There is also a bit of a peppery hint and some nice fruit like figs and dates. More than a little excited, I go for the first sip... my initial reaction is pure enjoyment as the warming and sweet flavors roll around... wishing it weren’t so dang expensive and more available. I’ve still got one in the cellar and I’m thinking that I won’t be sharing. Then, out of the blue I’m hit by some sort of vegetable gunk aftertaste... eech! It’s just in the way and doesn’t really go with the rest of the flavors or the mouthfeel or anything. Fortunately, it seems to get better as the beer warms a bit and breathes. Finishes out nicely... I wish I had polished this off in the dead of winter.

Bottle courtesy of bdigi66 at Fort Wayne Winter Gathering.Small tan head that mostly diminished, virtually no lacing, transparent, no carbonation observed, and a garnet hue. Nose was brown sugar, malty, caramel, spicy, and some alcohol. Flavor was sweet, malt, caramel, brown sugar, spicy and vinuous.Mouthfeel was mostly smooth and medium in body.Very quaffable, nicely balanced, would drink again, and worthy of a try.More please!

This bottled brew from bdigi66 at a rating party poured a medium sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent dark ruby red brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy malty vinous and sweet. smooth with a mellow vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt hops and vinous. A decent one that I would consider having again.

Bottle from trade with dra19. Ruby-copper color, thin layer of light tan head. Sweet malts and caramel, pepper, very light alcohol aroma for 13%. Very sweet taste, spicy malts, dark fruit, a slight herbal character. Slightly sour finish, and again, not much alcohol present considering the ABV%.

Bomber from trade a ways back with whom escapes me. I remember being really excited about this and then seeing some low reviews. Pulled it out the cellar and thought it would be a nice way to end the night. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. Pours reddish brown with a 1 finger tan head. Really nice malty nose. Taste is sweet and malty and robust and the alc is well hidden. Really sticky and sweet and mollasses like. Sort of one dimensional though

bottle at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours dark amber with a thin head. The aroma is of caramel malt and spice with some alcohol. The flavor includes roast caramel malt, dark fruit, and spices among other things. Some alcohol is slightly noticeable in the finish, but for 13% it’s pretty mild. It’s a tasty and complex beer, and just plain really good.
