theisti (1445), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 2, 2009 12 oz bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri. Pour is reddish golden orange with nice settling and a 1/2 inch off white head. Sticky lacing left behind as the beer falls. Very unique color, I can’t remember a beer that looked quite like this one. Aroma of big resin pine hop bitterness, along with an earthy peanut shel aroma. Some citrus sweet and light alcohol in the back. Really fresh smelling. Actually pretty subdued for such a ginormous beer. Taste is big resin hops, though not nearly as bittering as I was expecting from the nose. The fruit sweetness is honey apple, and is strong and dry. Behind the fruit sweetness is a warming and lingering alcohol presence. It really doesn’t stick out too much, but is evident. Very much in the background is some toasty malt. Balance is way towards the hops in this one. The palate is medium to heavy, coats the mouth yet is dry and clean in the finish. More of the dry hop resin lingers with the alcohol in the finish. Alcohol really comes out as it warms. The honey really never cloys. Well constructed beer, I suppose, just not entirely my thing. Bigmmartin (276), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 1, 2009 Hell yeah, finally saw it again back on the shelves in Ohio. Extremely hoppy aroma, tons of grassy, piney, resin aromas. Flavor is strong as hell. One of the hoppiest beers I’ve ever tasted. This one is unique, and stands out from many other IPAs. Has a nice sweet and malty backbone to back of the extreme hops. Reminds me alot of Hopslam, minus the honey. Very nice. waolsen (1166), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jun 28, 2009 bottle. thanks tim. deep copper pour with thin soapy head. fragrant aroma of rich papery malts, and earthy hops. rich maltiness, apricot and pear, syruppy bitter finish. one big hoppy monster. trayns (212), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Jun 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep cloudy amber golden color with very thin head. Aroma has a sweet grapefruit smell, caramel malts, but is overwhelmed by a piney hops. Taste is resinous sweet and a great variety and complexity of hops throughout. Palate is very thick and complex, the palate evolved and got better throughout the two bottles. A mouthfeel of a true impy stout. This one really grew on me, it could have been the 13% ABV. Unlike any beer I have had before. ditmier (729), Boise, Idaho, USA Jun 6, 2009 2008 Bottle thanks motortoddhead - Pours a dk amber with a tiny off white head...aroma is sweet candy malt and floral hops...flavour is sticky sweet caramel with a lingering bitterness, creamy mouthfeel...I think my hair is on fire... zathrus13 (1232), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA May 28, 2009 Pours cloudy amber, with almost no head.
