kingalbertstl (3), Missouri, USA does not count Jul 12, 2009 yummy...got a 12oz bottle from randall’s liquer in st louis...love IPA’s and gotta say this is my fav...founders double trouble is also another great ipa Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jul 12, 2009 12oz. bottle. Aroma of sweet, sugary malts and fruity, floral, citric hop, some alcohol detected along with notes of caramel, dough, pine and faint berry. Hazy deep copper color with a fading, slight head and very sparse lacing. Flavor is similarly a blend of nearly equally huge malt and hop, with copious amounts of toasty caramel sweetness and massively bitter, piney, citric hop, the alcohol heat coming in towards the finish, which is otherwise long, resinous, spicy and honeyish. Oily, smooth, warming, thick palate, body is as full as one would expect from a brew of this magnitude. Truly over the top, but not harsh or poorly conceived, actually maintains a balance of sorts. Thanks to theisti! joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2009 beautiful red with large white head. amazing citrusy and floral hop nose. hop bitterness that is not overwhelming before immediately being followed by a wondrful citrusy and floral hop flavor before a lot of low crystal sweetness with some unfermented sugars definitely being present. almost no hint of the alcohol, making the 12% abv very surprising. tremendous, the best beer i have had from founders without question monkeychugg55 (207), Joliet, Illinois, USA Jul 10, 2009 Bottle said 13% ABV. Pours a deep reddish copper with a small beige head that leaves a ton of sticky lacing. A strong aroma of sweet bready malt with a combination of citric and floral hops. Some boozy alcohol is present, but blends in well. Wow!! Bold flavor on this number. Lots of everything...alcohol, malt, and hops. Really in your face and a little bit hot. Mouthfeel is packed with chewy malt, oil, resin and sticky sugars. A nice original experiment, but I’ll have to agree with tennisjoel about the Double Trouble for the same reason. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Jul 10, 2009 Copper body with a very thin white head. Heavy hops and heavy malts. Sweet, but that is expected for 12%. More drinkable than double crooked tree which measures in at a similar ABV. Bitter finish, but not over the top. Good brew. I probably prefer double trouble for its drinkability, but this is nice. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2009 (Sample Date: 6/12/2009 Source:Other) 1.3 year old bottle. Caramelized maltyness with spicy hops in aroma. Cloudy orange amber with little head. Big hop spiciness in flavor with aged malt sweetness. Finish was very sweet and very bitter. Definite hop bomb. shawnm213 (877), South Bend, Indiana, USA Jul 10, 2009 pours a ruby red with beige dirty lookin head. some big sweet malts, booze, and some citrusy hops. just like you would expect. dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2009 12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Very bitter resiny hop aroma with some floral notes as well as toffee and berries. Taste is citrus, berries and other fruity notes from the hops with a lingering bitterness that grows as you drink the beer. Lots of resin and pine in there as well. Toffeeish malts and nutty notes lead to a nicely balanced beer. Bitter and sweet. Full bodied and slightly sticky. Very nice.
