topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Jul 9, 2009 Pours coppery with a one inch beige head. Huge citrus hop and caramel malt in the nose. Flavor is lots of hoppy bitterness with a bit of malty sweetness and some ripe fruit to try and balance it out. GandGKevin (183), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jul 9, 2009 WOW! This is right up there with some of my favorite DIPA/TIPA. Very hoppy and delicious. Grapefruity and a little tangerine. Excellent finish. tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Jul 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber with a rocky, tan head that has good retention and leaves excellent lacing. Aroma of strawberry cheesecake, pineapple juice, caramel apple. Taste is incredibly refreshing and easy to drink despite its insane credentials. Lots of fresh, high-alpha acid hops, caramel malt, strawberries, papaya. Sweet flavors gain prominence over the relentless amount of hops giving this triple IPA a very balanced character. The only other triple IPA I have tried is DFH 120 min, which was undrinkable in my opinion. This is the opposite. I demolished this beer way too quickly. The 12% abv is extremely well hidden. Overall excellent. Moggman (187), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours amber with little off white head. Aroma is hoppy with caramel notes in the background. Flavor is citrus hops, grapefruit, caramel. Very big beer, but very enjoyable. Blaze312 (129), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jul 5, 2009 On tap at founders. Pours a red/amber color. Smells like hops galore. This beer isn’t called triple IPA for nothing. The hops are very strong in this one, with some aftertaste of the alcohol. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Jul 5, 2009 Pours cloudy amber. The nose is caramel and hops. Comes across the palate as caramel, honey, and hops. Excellent heavy sipper. TearsforBeers (170), Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2009 Pours a reddish amber with a little bit of off white head.
Smells like sweet malts and some citrusy piney hops. The hop aroma is nowhere near what I’d expect from a triple IPA. Flavor is good, sweet malt and bitter hops up front followed by alcohol warmth and some lingering bitterness, not a lot of fruit or anything interesting, but good none the less. Mouthfeel is warming and thickish.
Overall, a good but not amazing beer. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 5, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a clear, ruby-orange body with a thin, creamy, beige head that leaves a light lacing. Aroma is straight up hops. Lots of sweet and resiny pine and florals with just a hint of sweet caramels. Flavor is similar. Lots of juicy grapefruits and pineapple. Big time sweet pines with a light resin. A light caramel keeps this somewhat balanced, but this is clearly focused on the hops. Dry, medium bodied, and very clean for such an IBU explosion. Long, sweet pine aftertaste. Overall, a very tastey DIPA, but for some reason left me unexcited. Seems like it needs more than just an excess of sweet hops.
