douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Aug 3, 2008 Updated: Aug 4, 2008Bottle. Pours a dark ruby color with a tiny white head. The aroma is very rich fruit candies, some rum, and raisins, plus a ton of alcohol. The taste is great; a strong strawberry and citrus hop, brown sugar and peppermint candy, some caramel, a light bitter and alcohol finish. Leaves your palate clean and wet. Very nice. Original, almost more like a Barley Wine, I enjoyed this one a lot. A fizzy and full mouthfeel even though the body is only medium to thin. jimhilt (1662), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Aug 2, 2008 Pours a two finger cream head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving no lace. Cloudy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Sweet alcohol nose. Flavor is a strong, sweet caramel, alcohol and grapefruit hops, lingering grapefruit aftertaste. Nice triple IPA. $3.80 for a 12oz bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 30, 2008 Bottle..very slightly cloudy red-tinged deep amber...smattering off beige head....orgasmic scents consisting of sweet aromatic malts....deep malt infused citrus....and a bready smell towards the end of this perfect inhale--its hard to get away from this aroma to taste, but here I go.....Quite viscous...sweet with citrus that is malt drenched....I get a little saltiness from the alcohol...I must say this beer is near perfection for me....positively ridiculously easy to drink for the % that it is...sticky on the lips, and the lacing that has decided to stick on the glass, has stuck BeerBaron617 (306), Novi, Michigan, USA Jul 26, 2008 sorry for the French, but HOLY SHIT! This stuff is INCREDIBLE. you need a chisel to get it out of the bottle, and once you taste it, you might have to put your glass down and take a breath. The aroma is just all hops, and the flavor follows suit, but with subtle piney notes. One of the best Imperial’s I’ve had to date. juiceisloose (634), Windermere, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Courtesy fantomas23. Pours a dark marron color with a small off white head that settles to a thin film. The aroma is of piney and citrus hops, the sweet caramel malt backbone, and a hint of alcohol. The flavor was a little hoppy up front with the citrus and piney hops, but they become overwhelmed by the sweet caramel malt and alcohol. Has a really nice sweet flavor in this one with some alcohol warmth. Medium bodied and very smooth and easy to drink. The hops show up again on the backend for a bitter finish. This wasn’t as hoppy as I was hoping for as the malts and alcohol seemed to take over everything. Pretty good, and certainly a nice one to try. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 18, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a murky, leathery color. Thin head with a good amount of lacing. Aroma is a hop expolsion. Citrus, piney, earthy, they are all there. Thin mouthfeel, but the flavor is the king. Sweet at the beginning, this beer gives way to a bitter, hoppy finish. Tons of warming alcohol as well. What a delightful beer. brewmandisch (2), elkton, Maryland, USA does not count Jul 18, 2008 I loved this beer but I am still learning how to write a review so I an a little thin on description here.
Not so much an IPA impression as a hoppy Barley wine. really enjoyed it. naivepegasus (183), USA Jul 14, 2008 Pours a dark ruby with a thin film of soapy head that quickly dissipates. Strong smell of caramel and syrupy hops. This beer doesn’t mask the alcohol as much as you’d think- sharp alcohol taste is matched with a hint of toffee and ends with a strong bitter aftertaste of burnt toast. Not bad at all, but I think I overhyped it in my head.
