DWestrick (234), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Apr 26, 2008 tap at DLD08 - I absolutely loved this beer. Perfect for my tastes and so easy to drink (for 13%). I am definitely getting this again and one of my all time favorites! Taverner (822), San Ramon, California, USA Apr 26, 2008 Updated: Apr 27, 2008Good stuff. Full of maltiness yet full of IPA flavors. Had almost a barleywine flavor. You can smell the full floral, yet dank hop profile from this stuff. Very yummy. Pours a copper yet golden with lots of head. bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2008 Bottle: pours a hazy dark orangish-red with very little head, just a thin white lacing around the edge of the snifter, aroma is very hoppy and a lilttle bit of the alcohol as well, taste is hoppy as expected and the hops really come through in the aftertaste, mouthfeel is thick, kinda syrupy, normally I don’t like the syrupy brews but this one is an exception. Pretty amazing brew. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Apr 26, 2008 Pours a translucent deep amber, copper color with basically no head. Malty aroma that’s also slight floral and slightly spicy. Flavor is very similar, heavy malt character with some spicy bitterness. Heavy in the mouth with a touch of heat from the alcohol. Definitely could have been better. NobleSquirrel (1094), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 26, 2008 Tap, DLD. A pretty big Imperial IPA, though didn’t have the nose or taste of Dreadnaught. Tons of hops and booze, though reasonable balanced for the style. Nice. Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a beautiful orangey blood red with almost no head which is its only downfall.
S- Smell is very sweet, hoppy, bits of floral pine come through a bit of red ale in the nose.
T- Taste is awesome, however a bit unbalanced. When you do the huge triple IPAs like pliny the younger and so on I think theres a very fine line between on and off balance, the bigger you get I think you have to really get it right. All of that said I really do love the taste though, starts out smooth, malty sweet and a wave of hops breaks over the tongue and lingers for quite a while.
M- Mouthfeel is super thick with a low dose of carbonation, a bit too thick for me but it fits well with the style.
D- Not hugely drinkable I loved to enjoy this one. An awesome TIPA, I would recommend it to any hophead out there as one of the best and by far the best that is semi-commonly available. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Apr 26, 2008 Updated: Mar 23, 200907 bottle thanks to yem25, thanks Ryan. Poured an amber-copper color with a thick beige head that left some nice lacing. Strong aroma of citrus (grapefruit, orange, and apricot) and some undertones of leafy, earthy hops and caramel malt. Nice caramel malt with some toffee character leads into a nice citrus flavor (grapefruit and soft apricot) with some light leafy hops on the finish. Thick, smooth mouthfeel with a light bitter finish. Very nice beer, this definitely exceeded my expectations. Thanks again Ryan, I appreciate it. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Apr 17, 2008 Pours a dark reddish amber with creamy, rocky white head. Very flavorful, with a thick mouthfeel. Caramel malt, dark and light fruits, citrus, grapefruit, and floral bitting bitterness. Kind of chewy and similar to a barleywine. This is good stuff :)
