keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Mar 10, 2008 This is a big beer. Lots of stuff going on. The aroma is fantastic and the taste is too. It stays with you after you’re done. The hops linger in your throat. Very easy to overdo it with this one. CP (124), USA Mar 8, 2008 I have a bunch of different IPAs and it gets hard to tell them apart. Not with this one. This is the hoppiest beer I have ever had. When you leave this one on the palate you practically inhale the hops rather than just drink it. Beer pours a deep dark red brown with a barely a white rim of head. Aroma and flavor is hops, malts and raisins. Slight alcohol taste as it goes down, but not to bad. Certainly an interesting beer to try. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Mar 5, 2008 Pours dark amber with a thin....off white GREENISH head?? I hope I imagined that. Strong hop aroma, huge sweet malt backs it up. Flavor is intense hops, sweet caramel malts. Has a bit of toffee and raisin as well. Noticeable abv doesn’t distract from the flavor. Low carbonation, creamy. Very interesting. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Mar 5, 2008 Updated: Mar 6, 2008smells, looks, and tastes great. huge ibus are balanced by huge malt sweetness. this is a well crafted beer. make it the last of the night as everything after it will taste like water. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 4, 2008 Over the top in every IPA aspect. Very hoppy to the point of a sweetness. Definetly not the beer to pick if you are in a slugging mood. Actually smelled very good. ABV smacks you in the face, not exactly hidden, although at 13% what do you expect? Its kind of the point. Nice to try as a first beer of the night, but numb senses and a rapidly emptying bank account keeps it at one. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Mar 3, 2008 Thanks to Derek for this one. Caramel colored body, little tan head springs up and then melts away. Aroma of warm brown sugar, spicy hops, a touch of sweet fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is subtle. A sweet toffee front is interrupted by a dry bitterness that persists through the finish. Slightly sticky body yet not too thick. marton504 (10), USA Mar 2, 2008 Had this on tap at Map Room in Chicago. I am a huge hop head but was not super impressed by this beer. To me the hop flavor tastes a little off. Interesting to try but not my fav. gunsho (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 2, 2008 this beer is like a beautiful red headed woman, fiery, temperamental yet worth every minute of your time. she pours a deep rusted red, the most beautiful you’ve ever seen, you remember anouk aimee in "8 1/2", rita hayworth in "gilda." what head does exist is a perfect ivory with the slightest bit of lacing. let this beer dance on your palate, its complex and longstanding, it tickles you here and pounds you there. it sticks there with a fieriness found few other places. notes include bitter orange, fresh tobacco, star anise, vanilla, barley. honeycrisp apples, and so many hops you could swim in them like scooge mcduck in a vault full of pennies. this beer is a woman, she plays with you and ultimately leaves you feeling ethereal. this lady is "the one" you think, you ponder that you must move to grand rapids and be with her forever. after all, her brother breakfast stout is a good addition to your sunday morning foursome.
