DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Dec 21, 2007 pretty much a hop bomb in a bottle.Pours amber with hops on th enose.Started of semi swey then the hops busted through.big hoppy finish. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Dec 20, 2007 12-oz. Pours crystal clear dark amber with a thick, poofy off-white head. Plenty of webby lace. Modest little candied orange pith nose. Attractive, but unprepossessing. Medium body, some carb. Big resiny wallop right from the getty. Sweet caramel undertones, but mostly lots of resin and pine on the mid-palate, swirling into a piney and resinous finish. No sign of the booze at any point. Not half bad. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 19, 2007 Bottle. Amber-orange color with a oily head. Like sersdf said, 100 times better than 120 minute IPA. So much more balanced and not syrupy. It’s a suped up DIPA, which is what it should be. Floral, grapefruit, really good finish. Really, really good. bierkoning (5985), La Tropica, Netherlands Dec 17, 2007 Bottle. orange red color. Strong grapefruit and red berries aroma. Oily hops, lemon, grapefruit en red berries in the flavor, so abundant that it attacks and almost conquers the alcoholic character of this beer. Oily hoppy peppery aftertaste with red berries. A big beer in all aspects, but still with a good balance. stangger (155), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 8, 2007 Updated: Mar 4, 200812 oz bottle at Capone’s in Norristown, PA. So, First I had Hop Devil, and I thought that was pretty hoppy. Then I had Double Simcoe and the Hop Monster and thought THOSE were hoppy. Devil Dancer is another level of bitter hoppiness above that. Pours a reddish brown - aroma is pure hops. The taste is intense - I can best describe it as flaming hops, as the heavy 13.2% alcohol comes through a bit along with the raw bitterness. Really powerful stuff, you might want to work up to this one with some of those weak double IPAs first.
Around $74/Case in PA. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Nov 28, 2007 The color was a hazy medium amber. The head was creamy, off-white, and thin. The aroma was very hoppy, citrisy, and pine. The flavor was alcohol, hopps, a slight waxyness/bitterness at the back of the mouth, citris, and pine. The palate was thick-bodied. The finish was warm and hoppy. lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Nov 27, 2007 Pours a beautiful ruby color with tannish head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, alcohol, and pine. Flavor is sweet and malty in the beginning with a piney finish. Palate is sticky, but that is the only detraction for this complex and intense brew. MaxxDaddy (261), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Nov 24, 2007 Bottle from Secret Santa (thanks!). Poured dark red-brown with off-white head. Aroma of caramel and grapefruity/pine hops. Pretty balanced taste; a blend of caramel sweetness and citrusy, bitter hops. At this level of alcohol, I guess it’s tough to be hop-dominated, though the bottle may have been old, I don’t really know. Pretty sticky mouthfeel and finish was more bitter than the taste.
