Abel (13), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 9, 2007 Cloudy reddish brown, off-white head. BIg hop aroma. Smelled like lychees to me. Very bitter beer, in a good way. Not a very hoppy flavor. Solid maltiness. Alcohol is not hidden, which adds to the bitterness. Very nice IIPA. bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 7, 2007 Bottle. Founders - I haven’t had anything yet that wasn’t top quality and Devil Dancer did not disappoint. Thick, full pour and appearance - murky with floating filament. Not an overly hoppy I-IPA but beautifully balanced with a strong, sweet caramel malt flavor. Alcohol prescence is obvious but not overpowering. Very similar to Great Divide Hercules - only better. A very, very good imperial - my full rec. biggenius29 (155), Hamilton, Michigan, USA Apr 6, 2007 Bottle. Pours deep amber/mahogony with a average creamy off-white head. The lacing is very good leaving a film from the top of the glass to the bottom with a head that fades away leaving a small white film on the top of the beer. The clarity is hazy with tiny particles hanging out in there. When you open the bottle and begin to pour you are hit with a huge citrus hop aroma. Once poured and takeing a smell you can smell the hops, orange’s and pineapple. With the first taste it is very bitter, but also very malty. Huge roasted caramel malt. The first drink is quite sweet, but also quite bitter. Then once swallowed there is a bitterness that sits on the back of the toung for a very very long time. The body is full with a creamy texture. The carbonation lies somewhere inbetween soft and lively. There also is a moderate alcohol burn in this one. This is a very good IIPA. I would like to have more flavor hops in this one, it has a few, but there are more bitering hops than flavoring hops. Mrthirstyneck (341), Minnesota, USA Mar 30, 2007 nice beer. I love hops, and this was a great beer but like others said here i guess its all the malts in the DIPA and this TRIPA, but they all seem to have less of that RAW bittering burn that im after. none the less a very tasty brew with a bit of a booze taste but not much. nice on the palate, and smooth id say go for one today! incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Mar 30, 2007 200 IBU’s?? I wouldnt have guessed that. Certaiinly a lot of hops in this, but they are evened out my all the malt and probably the ABV takes away some of the hop burn that would be there. This was pretty sweet tasting, but i didnt think it was as sweet as some other DIPA i have had. I LOVE hops, but i thought the hops were a bit to masked in this to give me a real burn. Very tasty brew none the less! GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Mar 23, 2007 Pours a deeply burnt apricot color w/ a shallow froth. Residual lacing is minimal. Aroma is extremely malty w/ a ton of sinus opening flowery hops. Full nectar w/ ample, soft residual effers. The liquid expands in a volumous plume of soft cotton. Big fat caramel malts sliced and diced by some heinous hops of the Steven King sort. Hacking, stabbing, biting, scratching, hops. Man, this could be dangerous. Theres a moderate sweetness. The finish is bittered to perfection. Long w/ lingering caramelized hops. Good balance despite the baggage. henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Mar 14, 2007 Very beautiful deep red-brown body, quite big creamy beige head; Big very hoppy nose, lots of sweet pineapple and orange peel; Soft textured body with a big and soft carbonation, quite bitter and the bitterness is very sharp, a little sweet as well; Long warm a bit sweet very bitter finish. Good beer but it need both more complexity and depth to be really interesting. Thanks Iowaherkeye. edfitz (114), Toledo, Ohio, USA Mar 10, 2007 Amber with with head. The hops are offset nicely by the malts, not as bitter as I thought it would be. Very smooth, a nice lasting beer. The alcolhol is disguised nicely by the malts, but still obvious.
