Commercial Description:
Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha’s used to create this monster. More IBU’s than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil. 112 IBUs

I think this one is more of a barleywine but none the less a great beer.Has a big hop nose mixed with some nice maltyness.Flavors are dominated by the malts, but there also is a nice hop presense.Finishes with biting hops and alcohol.

Holy Cow! Thanks to Sprinkle from Crown Liqour for this beauty.what an amazing beer. I can’t even begin to discribe this baby. It pours a cloudy brown with hints of red. Very little head retention. Smell of apricot figs and malt. Taste is very complex. Sweet cirtus but the hops hit you in the face like a ton of bicks. The alcohol is present, bust very well masked, if that makes since. I cwish I had more

(Bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=21222 target=blank>OhioDad, thanks Scott!) Rock-candy sweetness and pine...This pours a murky dark burnt orange with one finger of orangish biege head that recedes to about 1/4" and stays. Aroma of rock candy sweetness and pine. Mouthfeel soft, lightly sticky, pretty full. Nice lacing. Flavor is rock-candy malt sweetness with a bite of pine and some grapefruit. Some alcohol felt in finish. Bitterness which lingers into aftertaste. A good high-octane beer.

Bottle from Chris (styles) Thanks. He told me when he sent it that it was about 18 months old... so as it is now it has aged gracefully into a barley wine for the most part. Jesus, the 13% is hidden but it doesnt hide itself once you have been drinking it for 45 minutes. Brown color without much of a head. Smell is hops and malts and just sweetness. Taste is smooth and not too bitter - 200+ ibus? haha, i would laugh at that. Double Simcoe is way more offensive than this beer. - But - I would like to have a fresh sample to really back that up. Very easy to drink, very smooth, and very well hidden alcohol even though its 13%. Nice stuff.

This beer is a kick in the nutt sack. Pours hazy red. Aroma is very grapefruity with some raisiny caramel (hint). Flavor is burning grapefruit with raisin caramel malt backbone. Sweetness is there after initial hopslam but gone very quickly. Finishes in a nearly painful bitter finish that lingers on and on. At first i didnt know what to think about this beer. The more i drank and became acclimated the more i enjoyed this masochistic pleasure.

Bottle: Pours a nice reddish amber color with a tan head. Smell is very powerful. I am noticing a strong citrus smell to this one, grapefruit mostly. I can smell a slight alcohol burn on the end of this beer. Taste is very odd, and very hot. I notice a bit of a creamy hop type texture (not sure how to explain it) but there is a medicinal feel to this one due to the high alcohol I think. This needs to mellow out for a little while. I will cellar the rest and retry later.

12oz bottle via trade with Pailhead. Aroma: Big hop aroma with a ton of citrus juice. Other fruits coming through too. Mostly pear and a light raisin. Some strong resin followed by a light floral. Malt is strong, as well with a strong caramel sweetness. Alcohol is noticeable, but not hot or over the top. Appearance: Deep orange bordering on copper red and quite hazy. Light beige head was full and frothy, but dissipated quickly. Nice lacing. Flavor: This is a tough one. Malt sweetness comes on strong with a deep caramel and brown sugar flavor. Before I could process the malt the hops come tearing in. Citrus is there, but not as strong as aroma. Some pineapple and apple. Pine and resin are very strong. Grass and floral into the finish. Bitterness is strong and lasts long after the finish. Also into the finish is a syrupy sweetness from the malt. Palate: Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Interesting and worth a try, but too much for my taste.

Too over the top for me. Sure, tons of hops in this one, but I couldnt really discern the subtleties of the hops since there was so much malt (and therefore alcohol) in this one. I was intrigued by the thought of a triple IPA, but I’ll stick with regular IPAs and IIPAs. Thanks for the bottle, Dad!
