milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Sep 29, 2006 Updated: May 18, 2007Overpowering! Lots of hops, but off-set by malt sweetness. High alcohol very present. This is the most bitter brew I’ve tried and I enjoyed it! However, it’s an event, and not a beverage---and the alcohol is omni-present. Thaichile (599), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2006 Bottle. This poured a deep ruby with almost no head. Nose was hops and fruit(apples). Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. Very bitter but as the beer warmed this flavor was more muted only to return in the last few sips. Honey, grapefruit, peaches all mixed together, but I thought the bitterness was for the most part a bit much. Thanks to Sprinkle for the bottle. OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 19, 2006 Immy’s tasting poured amber in color with a thick tan head. BIG floral hop aroma with a touch of carmel hidden in there. Flavor was BIG floral and citrus hops with just enough malt hangin around. Thanks Immy. I want more. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2006 Much thanks to hopdog for this one from my "wants list". Pours a hazy deep ruby amber with a small foamy/bubbly light tan head that sustained and left tons of sticky lacing. Aroma of pine, sticky citrus, very sweet malt, caramel, tobacco, toffee, grapefruit and some toastiness. Flavor is a very sweet malty/hop mix with some bitternesss peaking through the massive amount of malts in this beer. The bitterness and hop feel kind of lingers on the tongue and more various flavors come out. Also lends to a spicy and earthy hop things going on in addition to the grapefruit/orange citrus thing and the alcohol was fairly well hidden for being at 13%. temporrari (327), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 6, 2006 Bottle, at least one year old. Small head, deep amber. Aroma is sweet, hops, citrus fruit, big malts. This is a barley wine, folks. Bitter as hell. Fruity, this reminds me of Rogue Old Crusty. Not as good though, but not bad. Be careful with this stuff. MHED (112), lisle, USA Sep 4, 2006 tap at great taste of midwest 2006. Nice pour with thick orange/amber color and small tight white head. aroma of pine, pepper, and grapefruit. Subtle malt backbone with a hint of caramel, then BAM! a super charge of bitter spice and citruis pine hoppiness that flirts with splitting your tongue, folding your fore- head, then balancing off just enough to want another taste. An enormous, hoppy beer that will tame the most serious hopheads. cheers! aarossell (151), Grandville, Michigan, USA Sep 1, 2006 On tap at Founder’s. For some reason I was convinced it was a good idea to order a pint of this stuff, and that was after another pint of a lighter beer. I managed to get through half the glass before stumbling happily out the door. Very strange beer, complicated palate, but super delicious. Drink moderately vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 20, 2006 Pours dark tawny brown with a small light tan head - I believe this had more head when it was fresh, this has some age on it. Huge rich musty caramel malts on the aroma with some piney and woody hops. This rich mouthfeel with light carbonation. Starts with thick caramel malt with some earthy hops. Hops burst out on the finish - dark thick woody / piney hops, but still a lot of malt is present. The finish is very resiny as well. This is much hoppier all around when fresh, but it is still respectable with some age on it. Great beer.
