Founders Devil Dancer Triple IPA

Tap at Founders. Slightly hazy rich copper color. Very hoppy flavor. Feels good on tongue with a slight tingle.

Bottle courtesy of Santa: Nice perfumed nose, hop drenched, with a lot of alcohol. Dark amber with little head. Chewy palate, with resinous pine and a lingering sweetness and a sharp bracing bitterness.

****Re-Rate***** Tap at Capone’s. Pour out a very attractive reddish hued dark copper. Slight off white head. Aroma is intense, pine and citrus hops smack you right in the face. Hops take center stage, huge bitter hops, citrus, pine and floral, slight caramel backbone going on in there, but the hops really take off. Slight alcoholic finish, but not as intense as would be expected for the percentage of this beer. Awesome job, much better on tap.

On tap @ Founders! Crazy- Intense IPA. If the Centenial is Coffee, the Devil D is espresso. Pours auburn brown with an even head and nice lacing. Aroma is mix of hops and fruitiness. Complex blend of hop flavors and bitterness which almost overpower you, but very drinkable. Anything more than 8 oz would have blown me away though.

Orange-amber with a dense tan head. Caramel and floral hops in the nose, and then the flavor... BANG! Bitter, bitter floral an d citrus hops, yet somehow the malt hangs in there. Note to self - find more of this...

Pours a clear rich dark copperish red with a small bubbled relatively thin cream colored head. The nose is pure hop heaven pungently stretched over a sweet round caramel backbone. This hop aromas run the gamut from pine to citrus to flowers. Notable, but not overwhelming alcohol. This is a really smooth palated beer with reasonable carbonation, not a load of viscosity, but a bit sticky. The flavor is intense. I’ve never had such a well balanced beer of this size. Incredibly bitter grapefruit, pine, and floral notes, but in equal measure roundly sweet thanks to ample caramel and light malts. I really have to say my tastebuds are bamboozled by the onslaught of flavor. Slightly toasty with hints of fruity flavors. The lingering bitterness is really legendary, with the alcohol warming only emphasizing this beer’s strengths. I really enjoyed this one immensely, and will pick up a sixer the next time I see one! Rerate 11-14-2006 Everything I said earlier was entirely true, but on this bottle the hops are so fresh and pungent that it cuts through the artichoke gouda cream cheese on my bagel. And this is some nasty funky (tasty) artichoke gouda cream cheese. Particularly the aroma. It’s pretty ridiculous with those sharp pinapple, papaya, and almost mango tropical fruit aromas. So I have to boost the aroma rating by 1 to a 9. However, upon further drinking of this delicious beer, I think I erred in putting the overall at 19. this is a great beer, but alas, an 18.

A deep red color with a small but lasting tan colored head. This beer is hoppy, sweet like caramel and brown sugar, with spice and alcohol- and the flavour and aroma are overall very similar. Smooth and creamy palate. A lingering sweetness. I really cant say anything bad about this beer, its strong in all categories.

12 oz bottle courtesy of OhioDad... thanks. Deep cloudy red-orange beer, syrupy pour with a thick tan head. Thick persistent lacing and a very tight head. Aroma is incredibly hoppy, spicy, dried fruits (peach/pear) with a significant piny resiny aroma. Grapefruit and spice with an undercurrent of sweet raisiny maltiness. Toasted malt, light brown sugar and a bit of peppery alcohol. Flavour is surprisingly well-balanced, grapefruit, pine and spicy hops. Strong resiny notes along with a fairly complex maltiness, toast, resin and a strong toastiness. Raisiny and peachy fruitiness. Combination of refreshing hoppiness and warming alcoholic finish. Warming brings out out the malts and more spice and resinousness. Intense bitterness, full mouthfeel. Despite the massive ABV and lingering maltiness, it is still more IPA than barleywine. Nice beer.
