Too expensive and seems like just an experiment to cram as much bitterness into one beer. Pass. mattmc1973 (302), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2009 12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Poured a dark amber with off-white head. Aroma of heavy malt, sweet dark bread, molasses, maple syrup, grapefruit/orange, and alcohol. Taste was heavily sweet, and surprisingly was only moderately bitter. The heavy sweetness balanced out the bittterness to point where I didn’t notice the full 112 IBU’s. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, and syrupy. Finishes with a strong alcohol presence. All in all, it’s a lot: a lot of bitterness, a lot of sweetness, a lot of everything. noncaloric (605), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 18, 2009 First whiff on the aroma, a delicious blast of grapefruit and piney hops, a bit of cream soda and caramel. Second is similar, but with an almost frightening alcohol chemical-ness. Pours a hazy orange, tall beige head, streaky lace. Flavor leads with hops bitterness paired with hops aromatics, largely floral, secondarily citric. Big caramel malt body, from the texture one can tell this is a very malty beer, but the bitter still balances the sweet. This is impressive on a technical level, but in terms of hedonic satisfaction doesn’t really bridge the gap between yum and wow. The alcohol in the aroma, is well balanced by the other flavors. Very full bodied, hops and alcohol combine for a potent warming sensation, lively palate. plovmand (1603), Helsinge, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 18, 2009 Bottle shared with hallinghansen. Cloudy deep amber body with a creamy yellow head. Heavy sweet malty aroma with lots of caramel, fruit, pine and alcohol. Creamy texture. Barley wine like flavour with lots of sweetness, light spice, pine, bitter hops and alcohol. The 112 IBU’s is almost not enough to handle this bastard! wavers1 (129), novato, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 18, 2009 translucent burnt caramel pour, looks like a barleywine. super sweet malty notes with tons of heaviness overshadowing the hops on the nose, smells like a barleywine. super sweet aged malty note of caramel, vanilla, and a tawny port start to the palate, tastes like a barleywine. doesn’t strike me as a hopbomb as much as a sweet, aged bw. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 17, 2009 Didn’t dance with the devil in the pale moonlight........no, sampled this at the GTMW in the 90 degree heat........and the overwhelming hop bombing began. My palate was pretty much fried after tasting this one, but in a good way. Tried to taste more at the festival, but it was no use.......shoulda just hung around the Founders tent and had this some more.
Need to get me more of this. Great floral and citrus aroma....and of course the hops.
An overwhelming beer and one surely to please hopheads everywhere.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 16, 2009 2008 bottle poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a cloudy orange color with little head. This was a thick beer with citrus and floral notes. For 12% ABV this is dangerously palatable. Let’s dance! boFNjackson (1262), Portland, Oregon, USA
