garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 14, 2009 With great thanks to Stephen (DuctTape) for gifting me this for my 30th birthday. Thanks Steve! Appearance: Lovely cloudy ruby red with a moderate off white head. Aroma: Superb hoppy aroma singes the nostril hairs with lemon, herbs, mango, pineapple, malt, nuts and lemongrass. Flavour: Holy Jaysus! A (nice) shudder just ran through me, the hop bitterness is just outrageous! Like having your very own bottle of hops, man it’s just crazy. Caramel, malt, malt, malt, hops, hops, hops, hops.. bitter as hell, just superb. Long bitter hop finish. Wonderful. doboy (175), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Aug 12, 2009 Poured a dark copper hazy color with an off white head that at first built, then disipated somewhat to a nice lacing on the edge. I was disappointed in the aroma, it was mildly hoppy with some malt. The taste was that of hops right off the bat, but rather sweet to the taste. the mouthfeel was nice and smooth to the tongue. Back side is bittered nicely. 112 IBU’s is fine, but for what I expected from Founders, I think they have done better. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Aug 11, 2009 bottle poured a nice orange amber color with a small head. aroma has floral hops, citrus, light bitterness, and sweetness. flavor comes through with some hop power, citrus, lemon rind, underlying bitterness, flowers, sweetness, and resins. very rich, and light alcohol in the flavor for a 12% beer. nerdrocker101 (102), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy, red-orange with a thin, off-white head. The aroma is hop heavy with notes of oily pine, grapefruit, sweet citrus, and some floral hops. Flavors of sweet and bitter citrus fruits and caramel. This brew packs quite a kick. Deliciously hopped. gsteph (263), knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 10, 2009 Pours a murky, darkened burnt orange with a short, off-white head. Nose is pungent with strong caramel, grapefruit, melons, fresh pine sap and some fleeting floral notes. There is some alcohol in the nose as well, and I mean that literally, as I can feel it in my burning my nostrils. Flavor is predominantly candied ruby red grapefruit...other strong flavors of brown sugar, honeydew and juniper berries are prevalent. This shit is BOOZY!! Right up front on the first exhale....alcohol...and it is strong! I initially think...90 minute on PEDs!! I welcome it though as it doesn’t detract any from the enjoyableness of this concoction. Ends with a lingering finish that is multi-leveled....sharp and biting that fades into sweet and bitter. Full bodied brew, thick and somewhat syrupy with a creamy feel. Heavy on the malt and heavy on the hops makes for one hell of a potion! A marvelous thing in its own right. Overall a mammoth brew, both in IBU’s and alcohol, this is...a huge, straight forward, ass-kicking IPA! Get some while it lasts. DuffManSW (283), Riverside, California, USA Aug 10, 2009 Bottle from Punkrkr27... Thanks Steve.. Pours orange copper with a white head.. Aroma is floral and citrus hops, kinda sweet.. Flavor is very sweet with lots of citrus and caramel.. Thick for an IPA.. I like it though. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Aug 8, 2009 Intriguingly red and glowing in the glass. Just a swirl of head on the surface of the beer. Aromatic hops are fairly gentle, but this smells like a big beer. Indeed, the full punch of hops arrives at the end of the palate: grapefruit, orange, candied lemon peel, sharp grasses and lavender. The finish is long, long, long. On the nose and up front are some fine cinnamon and cocoa malts which lend a lot of balance to the IPA.
