COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha’s used to create this monster. More IBU’s than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil. 112 IBUs

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2006 Beautiful perfumey layered fruity aroma, bright clear amber-red with rich creamy head and big gorgeous lace. Incredibly smooth and full-bodied with bold bitter hops, raisiny fruit and a long long bitter grapefruit-rindy woody finish. I mean long.

Bottle obtained via trade with beeryum. Pours a cloudy brownish red with a medium but dense cream colored head. Aroma very similar to that of SN Bigfoot; lots of hoppy pine, wood and toastiness. The flavor has huge notes up front of pine, grapefruit, wood, sweet caramel, toasted malt, toffee and a touch of pipe tobacco. Pleasantly sweet, with a ton of lingering hop bitterness. The alcohol content gives off more of a nice warming feeling rather than a harsh one. Very full, round and creamy on the palate with moderate carbonation. Great brew! I’d consider this a barleywine though.

12 ounce bottle. Poured dark copper with a short lasting white head. Aromas of pinapple, pine, graitfruit, citrus, caramel, vanilla and tropical fruit. Taste was smooth but the aftertaste was way too salty. The salty aftertaste is my only complaint. Aside from that this was very nice.

12 oz bottle, via trade w/ Drnk-McDermott I think. Dark copper pour, small off-white head that fades to a thin film quickly. Large amount of globby floaties. Aroma equal parts resiny grapefruity hops and heavy thick caramel sweet malt. Very fruity with some alcohol as well. Flavor is over the top grapefruity bitterness with ridiculous amounts of sweet toffee and caramle malt. Enormous amount of alcohol on the finish, very hot. Syrupy thick and cloying mouthfeel with very low amounts of fine carbonation. I think this might actually be a Triple IPA. Best example of the more is not always better philosophy that I’ve had yet. Not sure where they got the "dangerously drinkable" portion of the commercial description.

This one has Barleywine written all over it. From the ramped up malt character to the vanilla and oak notes I’m getting. Hazy amber and dark with just a few specks of film floating around the top. Super sweet in flavor with notes of tropical fruit, caramel and vanilla. Full low carbonated body and sticky palate. Nice one for the cold weather. Thanks to demitriustown for the sample.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very murky light brown with a thin light tan head that quickly goes to a thin skim that lightly laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet tangy grapefruit and caramel, with a little metallic note. Oranges, alcohol and a little floral hoppiness come out as it warms.

The flavor is sweet caramel and fruitiness initially followed by a fairly big earthy, grassy almost grainy bitterness. It has a kind of charcoal bitter (yet kind of sweet) finish and aftertaste. The alcohol is pretty well hidden but warming and becomes more prevalent as it warms. I would never guess this was 13% though. The mouthfeel is very full with light carbonation.

Overall, a very nice IPA3. There are better DIPAs that are better balanced though.

Bottle: A thick beer that pours a burnt sienna color. The aroma is sweet hops. Then you drink it and WOW -- did someone just punch me in the face? No, I just danced with the devil in the form of Founders mondo imperial IPA. It has a super hoppy aftertaste, but suprisingly sweet as well. I didn’t prefer the syrupy feel. The higher alcohol content was definitely noticed and I only had a sampler from Indiana_Red. Thanks.

Bottle Pours a cloudy dark redish brown. I am daring to "dance with the ’devil’ " on this one. The viscosity seems very high. Syrupy almost. Extremely dense and creamy beige head and thcik sticky lasting lacing. Aroma is a strong sweet malty carmel. Vanilla, candied sugars are also apparent. Don’t right off notice more than a typicl IPA hop aroma. Maybe less than typical. Flavor however betrays its style. Malts are sweet and heavy. The Bitering hops come in late and make you forget everything else. Very smooth heavy feel and very soft carbonation. Very strong, bitter and at 13%, I dared to dance and I am afraid my dance card is full. Impressive....how is this not a BW again...?

Thanks to Walt for this one. Dark for an IPA. Hazy with little head. Musky, hoppy, heavy caramel aroma with some hints of coffee and vegetable notes. Moderate body. Very alcoholic. Very bitter.Vegetable flavors mingle with earth and pine. Rough overall. The commercial description makes some hefty claims. I would be interested in knowing more about the IBU’s and how measured.

amber body, thin white head, hoppy nose (derf), pungent strong hop flavor, balanced with something kinda skanky and rich with honey, strong bite, crispy and distinct but not overly impressive, 13%... yikes
