Cornfield (4262), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2005 Ach, mein Gott! This truly gets this hophead’s seal of approval. Deep orange, almost red (with heat) in color, it has a strong grapefruit-lemon zest-resinous hop aroma strongly matched by the scents of a rich, caramel malt. This baby is thick enough to chew on. It’s a seriously malty beer, sweet with some fruitiness (mainly orange) to it. Then it’s violently attacked by an (un)earth(l)y hop bitterness that scalds the inside of the mouth. Strangely, it flows down WAY TOO easily. I wasn’t quite sure if the warming of my body was due to the 13% ABV or my reaction to the 200+ IBUs. If it wasn’t so damned expensive, it would be my new session ale.
Thanks, Randy, for making this gem available in the Chicago area!

Swalden_28 (566), McKinney, Texas, USA Sep 2, 2008 Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy.
Pours a very nice cloudy deep amber with beige head. Aroma is very hoppy and obvious alcohol notes that blended very well. Flavor is of nice strong hops, sweet malt, alcohol to boot that blends in smoothly. Mouthfeel is full bodied heavy beer, med. carbonation. Overall this is very nice.......has warming effect. kegbear (77), Orange, California, USA Aug 31, 2008 Thanks to KingpinIPA for this one. Bottle. Beautiful rich copper orange color. Citrus, pine hop and malt aroma. Sweet malt with citrus. Slight hop bitter finish. Very drinkable for such a strong IPA. ericandersnavy (114), denton, Texas, USA Aug 30, 2008 bottle thanks to RCL in trade. I really appreciate the upgrade on this one. this poured a cloudy caramel type color with a tiny beige head. aroma was wonderful with grapefruit, hops, and dough. flavor was great also with citrus, hops, caramel, and maybe had some doughyness in it. this might have just climbed up the ranks to my favorite so far!! LilBeerDoctor (501), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark cloudy brown with no real head. Aroma of sweet malt, lots of citrus, and grapefruit. Flavor is incredibly sweet with a bitter hops finish. Very strong. This beer had an odd interplay between the bitter hops and super sweet malt that just didn’t mesh well. Too heavy and strong so that lots of the other flavors normally found in IIPAs are hidden here. I agree with another rater that this beer is somewhat similar to 120 min (although much better and far more drinkable, but designed in the same vein I’d imagine). Too much for me. Maybe it’s better fresh?? fredandboboflo (500), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle, thanks to sprinkle. This is a monster in all regards. Useless to list out everything because there really is everything in this beer. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, I found the malts to just be too overpoweringly sweet, with the bitterness taking a back seat until the finish when the rest of the show was over. Alcohol also seemed to thin out the otherwise unbelievably rich malts. Just too big I thought. More than complex, it was an unnecessary onslaught.
