COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha’s used to create this monster. More IBU’s than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil. 112 IBUs

On Tap. A beautiful amber color with a small off white creamy head.Very nice lacing. Aromas of dark and citrus fruits. Hops galore with a nice malty finish. Smooth and dry mouth feel. Great IPA. 13% abv, another fantastic beer from Founders. Ok I will say it... Danced with the Devil.

Pours a dark amber with some red. Little carbonation and no head. Light hops aroma, slightly floral. Very strong alcohol flavor (12%!) with minor malt taste. Way too strong, alcohol taste kills it.

ARH (370) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2014
On tap, poured into a snifter. The initial aroma is a warm caramel syrup with some sweet orange, tangerine, and grapefruit citrus. There’s also melon, floral notes, pine, spice, and spruce. There’s a touch of a whiskey / scotch aroma buried in there as well. It pours a rich, dark, slightly hazy orange brown color with a white, soapy bubble head. It leaves behind a really light lace, as it reduces down to a thick, soapy ring with a dusty surface. It’s highly bitter with a medium high sweetness to support it. The full body is thick and chewy with a light, small-bubble carbonation. A toasty caramel, pine, bread crust finish off the drink with a bright, sweet, juicy citrus. A pine and citrus peel flavor lingers for awhile in strength, but it feels clean.

Salmoniform (540) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - AUG 18, 2014
Poured from bottle to glass. Copper red hue with fizzy tan head that dissipated to a thin ring. Aroma is malt, spicy, ethanol, pine, melon, honey. Mouthfeel is nice with a full body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet initially with a nice hop bitterness in the following and a hot ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice triple IPA, however, it is a bit too hot in the finish. It is also quite dark for a "pale ale" and would be far better categorized as an imperial IRA.

This was very, very strong, but not in a hoppy way as I expected. Poured a real dark red color with massive malt flavors. There was a nice floral nose, but it was a bit too syrupy and maltish.

On draft. Aroma of scotch and alcohol. Flavors of cherries, dark chocolate and plenty of booze. Boom.

Bright caramel color with light tan sheen. Big tooty fruity, pit fruit, herbal, pine, caramel aromas. Medium body with soft co2. Hoppy bitter pine, citrus, alcohol flavors with a solid pale malt base brew----spicy warming alcohol to finish___with lingering sweetness----not bad.

Bottle courtesy of Secret Summer Santa 2014. Thank you! Bottled late may so reasonably fresh. Pours tiny hazy amber with a thin beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and earthy with biscuits, caramel, grapefruit rinds, moist grass, oily pine cones, papaya, alcohol, moist soil, orange peal and lemon peal. Taste is sweet, bitter and earthy with caramel, biscuits, toffee, grapefruit rinds, moist grass, pine needles, papaya, orange peal and lemon peal. Mouthfeel is round, oily bitter, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with caramel, grapefruit rinds, moist soil, pine needles, moist grass, orange peal and lemon peal. Not sure I agree that it’s complex but it’s got a malt base that is quite intriguing, it’s well made, it hides the ABV fairly well and very much more bearable than most other Triple IPAs.

Draft. Brown pour with tan head. In the last this was hop and sweet aromas. Very hoppy flavors, and a touch of sweetness. This draft aS subpar and awful.

DATE REVIEWED: August 2, 2014... GLASSWARE: Hoppopotamus pint... OCCASION: laughing and analyzing with Ryan , Jer, Shan and cousin Cheri...APPEARANCE: dark brown, iced tea-like body; off-white,, pencil-thin moustache-like head; could not expect much more, given the alcohol content... AROMA: tight, punchy hops; pine resin and some doughy malts; a bit of a brown ale too...then subtly scotch and bourbon in its end and warmth... PALATE: full, warm and rather flat; as the glass drains, it evens out and fills pleasantly... TASTE: sour lemon and smoky warm hops; coal and port elements; some cognac too--a complex experience, with the bourbon power invading; strong and shouldering.... OVERALL: a big beer to experience, and at 12% ABV, intriguing...however, at $19.99 a four-pack, NOT worth the experience--a nuance that does not deserve its price tag...still an experience to have....
