| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 18, 2006 I’ve tried this wonderful brew twice now, fresh at the Founders Brewpub and aged 6 months at Landmark 1850 tavern in Milwaukee. In both cases, try as I may, I could not find a single aspect to ding this on. We were served this in cognac sniffer glasses at Founders. I and the group I was with could not get over how intoxicatingly beautiful the aroma was. I’ve been a hophead a longtime and have enjoyed the aromas of Three Floyds, Dogfishhead,Alesmith, monster hop brews, but none of those quite matched what I was experiencing that night. . The color was a deep red amber when looked straight on, a more orange red when held to the light. And the taste pure heaven, a monster wash of amazingly scrumptous hops perfectly balanced with a huge sweet malty flavor with all kinds of sweet candyand fruits,,the glass has that slight stickness I love from these monster Imperial IPA’s from the runover , and finally to finish it off perfectly a lucious hop aftertaste, with a very warming feeling as it goes down from that well hidden 13 % alcohol. The 6 month aged beer, seemed to have lost a little hop aroma and hop citrus, but the hop bitterness at the end was even better. Only about my 6th perfect rating, but I see no way of improving this. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2007 A glowing amber resin pour, mostly clear. Hair spray stricken orange and honey aromas with the unmistakable urinal discoloration. Almost a vodka taste beside toffee malts and a Himalayan sprucy bitterness. Little for complexity amidst these extremes. Alcohol rears its gargoyle head on the palate with chemical strength. Very long finish, a sultry bourbon coating. Retains a faint resemblance of balance however. A more graceful step into the dark. AgentSteve (1379), SF Bay Area, California, USA

Pours mahogany brown with a large bubbled, cream colored head when poured vigorously. The nose is wonderfully hoppy with pineapple and floral notes in addition to sweet caramel malt. The flavor is not as hoppy as the nose, with more caramel and molasses standing out, along with noticeable alcohol. A bit smooth and creamy on the palate. The finish is lingering bitter. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2009 This one is amber colored without much head. Just a touch. Loads of pine and grapefruit. Strong caramel malt backbone. Strong alcohol presence in the nose and taste. A huge beer that’s fun to drink but maybe not a little too boozy to be great. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Dark red-amber and fairly clear body with an off-white creamy head. Interesting caramelly citrus aroma, with some grass in there. Taste has some sweet caramel backed up by a resiny pine hoppiness. May have a slight stale hop feel to it to, as DavidP mentions. Nice resiny/sticky mouthfeel. One of my favorites from the beer festival. (7 / 5 / 8 / 4 / 17).
Bottle rating, 2/21/05. Its still good. Its aroma is hoppy (perfume, citrus, pine, you name it) caramel.... taste is HOP SEDUCED caramel. That, plus the alcohol gives it a medicinal, cough drop-like taste. Its pretty good... I agree there doesn’t seem to be much complexity to it. However, it is very balanced, and I think better than a lot of IIPAs. And, I’m noticing that the more you drink, the more you find another hop characteristic. pantanap (1375), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Very flavorful, with a thick mouthfeel. Caramel malt, dark and light fruits, citrus, grapefruit, and floral bitting bitterness. Kind of chewy and similar to a barleywine. This is good stuff :)
