DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 28, 2005 A Brobdingnagian thanks to BBB63 for this. Jesus H. Christ, people are going to accuse me of being a schill for Founder’s or something, until they taste the beers. This one reminded me a lot of Dreadnaught. The alcohol was well hidden until the end, when it appeared slightly. Pours hazy ruby/copper (more ruby than Red Rye) with creamy off-white head. Aroma of huge resiny hops, floral esters, fruit (tangerine, grapefruit, honeydew, berries). This one has a big barleywine aroma. Tastes very hoppy, extremely fruity, with the above mentioned aromas as tastes. Super smooth palate. Around 1% of my ratings are 5.0s, and I will defend every one of them to the death. Founders kicks major ass! 200 IBUs!!! Holy shit! Yet still balanced by the fruit and malt. Get this, now! There’s no excuse if you live in the midwest. You must try this beer if you are a palestrong member or hophead. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 7, 2006 Had this aged for about 6 months. Only complaint was the Flavor of the hops. It was there but better when I had about 6 months ago. Color was a murky, redish brown. No head and fair lacing. Smell of fruit with hops. The taste sent my body jumping for joy! This has to be one of my favorites. Full of grapefruit, alcohol was perfect(not too weak nor strong), sweet and hops. Not that strong like I mentioned before but I could taste it. Every sip was like ecstasy. My first 5 on rate beer. stoutlvr (52), Lansing, Michigan, USA May 5, 2006 Pours like syrup, and does actually leave a sticky palate. Flavor is perfectly balanced hops, malt, and alcohol. Strong bitter citrus, mildly sweet. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Jul 31, 2009 Deep copper body under a yellowish head that hangs on. Great lace. Sweet flavors and very bitter finish. Cherry, mint, cilantro, citrus, and lime. Layered, complex flavors. Delicious and intense. Unique69crazy (119), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 16, 2008 WOW!!! Would you like to just sit down and have one beer to just put you over the edge? This is it and a mean one at that. I’ve always wanted to try this because I’m a hophead at heart but this brew is just incredible! Hops hops and more hops is all you taste. Thick syrup look with a slightly golden head. The only bad thing (or good, depending on how look at it) is the alcohol in this beast. Careful to not overindulge with this cat because it will bite back! Thanks Founders for putting my taste buds to the test! brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Mar 18, 2006 I’ve tried this wonderful brew twice now, fresh at the Founders Brewpub and aged 6 months at Landmark 1850 tavern in Milwaukee. In both cases, try as I may, I could not find a single aspect to ding this on. We were served this in cognac sniffer glasses at Founders. I and the group I was with could not get over how intoxicatingly beautiful the aroma was. I’ve been a hophead a longtime and have enjoyed the aromas of Three Floyds, Dogfishhead,Alesmith, monster hop brews, but none of those quite matched what I was experiencing that night. . The color was a deep red amber when looked straight on, a more orange red when held to the light. And the taste pure heaven, a monster wash of amazingly scrumptous hops perfectly balanced with a huge sweet malty flavor with all kinds of sweet candyand fruits,,the glass has that slight stickness I love from these monster Imperial IPA’s from the runover , and finally to finish it off perfectly a lucious hop aftertaste, with a very warming feeling as it goes down from that well hidden 13 % alcohol. The 6 month aged beer, seemed to have lost a little hop aroma and hop citrus, but the hop bitterness at the end was even better. Only about my 6th perfect rating, but I see no way of improving this. rajendra82 (698), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Feb 7, 2005 An awesome trade from CRJMellor brought this 12 oz. bottle to Georgia from Michigan. The choice of label art was interesting, to say the least, and so was the style moniker of Triple IPA. The beer poured barley wine like deep red amber, with a thick syrupy, dense body that was topped by an average sized beige head that left a good curtain of lace. The smell was citric hoppy reminding me of grapefruit rinds, and had roasty sweet malts lurking just behind the blanket. The beer was leaning definitely on the hoppy side with a zesty peppery taste of burning hop oils. The caramel and pale malts were not quite subdued with the boisterous hoppyness and provided a nicely sweet backbone. The mouthfeel was slick and was followed by a soft buttery-sweet aftertaste. Dangerously drinkable beer that will be sorely missed for being absent from these parts. Hugerat (432), somerville, Massachusetts, USA Mar 20, 2008 This beer is definitely unreal. Deep reddish color with a solid, creamy head. Far more complex malt flavors than most IPAs. Loads of caramel, molasses and toffee. Very strong citrus hop flavors with some pine in there as well, and a thick, creamy mouthfeel. This is a damn near perfect beer.
