Commercial Description:
Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha’s used to create this monster. More IBU’s than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil. 112 IBUs

Hazy red, with a very solid off-white head. Hoppy nose, with a good dose of orange and solid piney notes, some caramel and honey. Flavor is nicely rounded, with a profound toffee sweetness that gives way to a nice almondine bitterness. Plenty of citrus and even a touch of chocolate round things out. Excellent creamy mouthfeel.

Poured a deep reddish orange with medium size tan head. Smells of hops and malt. Nicely balanced flavor of grapefruit hops and caramel malt. Some alcohol in the finish. Very drinkable for such high ABV. Great stuff!

Poured a nice amber color with a medium sized beige head. Nice citrus hop aroma with some caramel malt notes. Full bodied with a nice citrus hop assault on the taste buds, but the caramel malt backbone balances it nicely. A well done and very tasty offering from founders.

Thanks Hopsrus!!! Dark bronze with a lofty head. Giant hoppy nose of citrus rind & alcohol. Nice malt backbone is sweet and slight;y caramelly, but this is all about the hops, huge and firey alcohol is held at bay by the monster hop burst at the finish. Hopheads rejoice!!!

On tap at the ’04 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Summer Beer Festival. Deep amber color with a foamy orange head. Tons of toffee, caramel and raw cookie dough sweetness with pineapple upsidedown cake and candied grapefruit peel flavors. Long lingering bitterness that just left me smiling. Delicious.

Bottle... This beer rocks! Hazy, orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention and stratus lacework. The malty, earthy aroma delivers huge notes of pine, leather, pineapple, apricot and toffee. The huge, malty flavor is muted very well by the ridiculously huge hops and warm alcohol. Actually more bitter than sweet. Quite an accomplishment. Ultra full-bodied and oily with medium carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish. Wow! Great beer!

Bottle. Thanks to jtw and wohlfs for this one! Pours deep amber with a small white head. Seems slightly hazed. Aroma is big citrusy hops and almost smells almost like concentrated orange juice mixed with pine needles, maple syrup and creamy malts. HUGE aroma! Taste is very hoppy but not as bitter as I would expect 200+ IBU’s to taste. There’s moderate syrupy sweetness, lighty alcohol notes, creamy malts, big fruit notes, and obvious pine. Body is bitter and a bit astrigent. Soft, and sticky syrupy feel with mild carbonation and slight alcohol warmth. Finishes just as big with more pine and citrus with maple syrup, creamy malts, fruit and maple syrup. Wow! "Dangerously drinkable" hits the nail on the head with this one.

Very dark ruby-hued amber body...barely a head at all. Sweet, candy-filled nose with raisins, plums, aged wood and even some vanilla and cherries...very inviting. The flavor is nearly as robust, with a full dose of hops. Very similar to a barleywine. It finishes a tad thin, though, yet it leaves me with a pleasant, lingering caramel taste. Nice!
