| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 29, 2009 Pour is amber, almost red. Aroma is super hop fruity with a dash of alcohol. Flavor is nice sweet malt with lots of hop flavor that’s not too bitter by any means. Very smooth and easy to drink for 12%. This is quite good and not overly hoppy, cloying, or dry like some huge DIPAs. ruskiimperial (84), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Disclaimer: I happen to thoroughly enjoy beer that is incredibly hoppy and bitter, even if it ruins your palate for the rest of the night.
That being said, this beer when opened hot has a sweet smell but a strong piney resin-like taste. This definitely has high alfa acids. Having had this when it has been aged for 1+ years I will say that this becomes more of a barleywine as the hop profile recedes and the sweet malts come through that you only pick up on the nose when its hot. A very excellent beer that can truly call itself a ’triple ipa’ if there is such a thing. Weedking4 (33), Stratford, Ontario, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours a very hazy dark amber. Just beautiful looking. Incredibly bitter and loaded with hops. Tastes simply amazing. No alc. taste in it, but you can feel it running through your body. So be careful if you taking on more then one of these bad boys. Just blown away by how delicious this brew was. More please! bsp77 (202), Minnesota, USA

Burnt reddish-copper with thin head and slight lacing.
Aroma of sweet fruity malts, grapefruit and citrus hops, some alcohol noticeable in the background.
Hop onslaught - definite grapefruit and citrus. Complex sweet malts, with caramel, toast and fruit. Somewhat bitter at the finish. 112 IBUs? - not that I can tell, but I am sure the 12% alcohol is tempering the bitterness. However, the hop oils really do coat the tongue. Slight taste of alcohol (less than expected).
Thick and chewy, extremely smooth, low carbonation. Warming.
Excellent slow sipper (I took an hour). Overall, great balance of hops and malt but the relatively low bitterness makes this seem more like a hop-forward Barleywine than an Imperial IPA.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 8, 2005 12 oz bottle. Cloudy amber/brown with a sticky head and tons of lacing. Founders is climbing the ladder as far as one of my favorite breweries. You can smell the hops a mile away. Floral and citrus. The taste is whopping in hops with enough maltiness to know this isn’t just Hop Punch. This stuff has a lot going on. Spicy, ripe, tart, sweet, sticky all balanced into a really good IIIPA. Alcohol is masked really nicely. Well done boys. adrian910ss (1445), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 2, 2005 Pours a coppery light brown color with a creamy head. Smells of intense hops, pine needles, malts and carmel. Taste has a strong bite to it. Can detect massive amouts of hops and pine needles. At first alcohol is hidden well but as the beer warms up the alcohol is more present. Very similar to a barley wine beer, yet has an IPA taste to it. An excellent IPA.
