Aroma was of bourbon and scotch. Flavor was carmel and malts. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Source: 12 oz bottle purchased at Bruisin Ales in Asheville. Glass: Tulip. Appearance: Poured a dark red/brown with a one finger beige head. Aroma: Sweet malts and dark fruits. Caramel dominates. Flavor: Caramel malt base with dark fruits on the end. Palate: Medium/full body with mild carbonation. Overall: Solid Founders offering. I don’t crave the Scotch Ale style, but this was a particularly good one.

Deep mahogany with a thin, quickly disappearing white head. There is a dark rum quality to this with lots of fruit to it, and a bit of smoke. It’s very tasty but the sweetness overpowers a bit as it goes on. Pipper (233), Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Bottle from Giant Eagle in Canton. Last time I had a scotch ale it tasted like bandaids so this was a pleasant reversal of my first run-in with this style. Dark copper/light ruby pour with light tan non-existent head (no I did not have a thistle glass, I’ve never even seen one). Light carbonation with an undeniable scotch aroma. Flavor is much the same but super subtle and cut by an equally subtle hop profile with a dry finish. vtafro (469), , New Jersey, USA

Reddish-brown in color with a medium beige head and good retention. Earthy, malty aroma with caramel and wood. Flavor is lots of caramel malt with earthy/woody notes, brown sugar, and a hint of smoke. Creamy, fairly full palate. A very good scotch ale.
