Commercial Description:
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Very bold! Not usually a fan of the smoke flavor but this beer had just the right amount . Aroma was of bourbon and scotch. Flavor was carmel and malts.

Source: 12 oz bottle purchased at Bruisin Ales in Asheville.
Glass: Tulip.
Appearance: Poured a dark red/brown with a one finger beige head.
Aroma: Sweet malts and dark fruits. Caramel dominates.
Flavor: Caramel malt base with dark fruits on the end.
Palate: Medium/full body with mild carbonation.
Overall: Solid Founders offering. I don’t crave the Scotch Ale style, but this was a particularly good one.

Bottle at 33 Wine bar in St. Louis. Deep mahogany with a thin, quickly disappearing white head. There is a dark rum quality to this with lots of fruit to it, and a bit of smoke. It’s very tasty but the sweetness overpowers a bit as it goes on.

Bottle from Giant Eagle in Canton. Last time I had a scotch ale it tasted like bandaids so this was a pleasant reversal of my first run-in with this style. Dark copper/light ruby pour with light tan non-existent head (no I did not have a thistle glass, I’ve never even seen one). Light carbonation with an undeniable scotch aroma. Flavor is much the same but super subtle and cut by an equally subtle hop profile with a dry finish.

12 oz bottle from a trade with dmschefke. pours burgundy with an everlasting tan head. malty aroma of caramel and dark fruit. the flavour is very malt forward but the finish is to hoppy for the style. i think more of the sublety would come through if it was as hopped. still a great beer though. thanks dave!

Brownish hued body with a thin head. Aromas of rich caramel, raisin, fig, plum, vanilla, and a bit of smoke. Rich malty flavor, and a good beer for the style.

Bottle from Wegman’s in Princeton, NJ. Reddish-brown in color with a medium beige head and good retention. Earthy, malty aroma with caramel and wood. Flavor is lots of caramel malt with earthy/woody notes, brown sugar, and a hint of smoke. Creamy, fairly full palate. A very good scotch ale.
