Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA May 30, 2009 Had to drink this 2 bottles at a time out of a 22oz hurricane glass
: p
Pours reddish brown with a thick foamy tan head.
Aroma is earthy/ woody, caramelized sugar and roasted malt..
Flavour is bourbon alc and woody, light earthy smoke and a subtle hop finish. 41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA May 27, 2009 Really nice beer. Smells of bourbon, burnt brown sugar and green apples, same on the flavor but with an unpleasant ashtray-like finish. Great looking, almost like murky river water. Good beer but not great. Thanks Founders. 2009 12 oz. LiebeBier (788), Annapolis, Maryland, USA May 23, 2009 Bottle - This is a very hearty beer with loads of roasted malt flavor. The alcohol is present but a nice complement to the beer. I can’t put my finger on it, but something seems to be missing. kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA May 21, 2009 Dark Copper in color, very slightly cloudy, no head but nice lacing. This ia a big beer with Malt and alcohol prevalent in the taste. Certainly some subtile notes of caramel and burnt suger but the alcohol overrides the flavors a lot. MereLikesBeer (154), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA May 17, 2009 So, I was incredibly perplexed with this beer. I was told that I might not like it so much, but that’s certainly not the case. I don’t love it or want to go out and purchase a case, however, it’s not all too bad. It poured a light brown - rust color and was very cloudy. I simply couldn’t put my finger what I was smelling and tasting. At first it seemed like I was smelling caramel, but then it went into an apple smell, reminding me of Fall, and trips to the cider mill. Taste was the most strange thing - after thinking about it for a while, it reminded me of breakfast...some sort of combination of bacon, pancakes, and maple syrup, all along with the fall (cider and caramel)...Just very odd. I liked it overall. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA May 17, 2009 Pours a shiny ruby to amber color with thin tan head. Aroma is a bit weak with sweet sweet malt and a slight roastiness. The flavour starts off with some hop bitterness and slight roasted maltiness. Not a fan of scotch ales, however, this brings a nice change in my mind of the type. Tasty beer. Uglyradio (775), Greenville, South Carolina, USA May 16, 2009 Dark, ruby red color. Small, lasting light brown head. Lightly sweet malty aroma. Full mouthfeel. Fruity, malty sweetness with just a bit of hops in the finish. Good scotch ale. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam May 9, 2009 Bottle thanks to Daknole. Rusty orange-brown color, and aroma is also rusty hop, burnt sugar, the crust of fruit bread. Very smooth beer with great hop profile matched by delightfully fruity malts. Nice brew that is not as chewy as it smelled.
