3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled 355ml. Ordered from bierkompass.de. Malt accented, fruity with a strong alcohol presence. Not the best example of the style.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Very malty scotch-style ale with a medium brown to amber hue. I love the body on this beer, it has a bit of thickness to it. Very smooth on the palate with a nice aroma. If you do not like malty, thicker brews, you probably would not like this. Found all over, if a pub has this beer available, I will default to it if there are no other beers of interest available (malty, darks, stouts, porters, or browns). This could be an everyday beer for me (if I drank everyday).

Bottle. Dark ruby with a small beige head. Aroma is caramel and roasted malt, alcohol and hint of hops. The flavour is very malty with sweet caramel, smoke, notes of liquorice and bitterness. Smooth and medium-bodied.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep ruby red color with a thin head that gathers on the edges. In the nose there is caramel, bread, smoke, pine and light alcohol. The palate is medium in body, softly carbonated with a long finish. The taste is lightly sweet with malt and finishes dry and leafy with a touch of alcohol. This beer is nicely balanced, not overly sweet, complex and rewarding sip after sip.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
thanks to thenewguy for sharing! Hints of smoke and molasses with vanilla and hints of roasted malts. Pours a dark reddish amber with a thin white head that dissipates. Tobacco with molasses and caramel with an earthy bitterness, very malty with earthy grassy hop notes. Very nice Scotch Ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A- Body is a rich dark mahogany hue. Pours with a 2 finger creamy tan head that eventually tapers off into a thick collar and plenty of lacing is left behind in the glass. Body is translucent and lots of particles can be seen floating throughout.
S-Deep, rich, and syrupy with chocolate malt dominating. Caramel malt and alcohol also make a strong presence.
T- Flavor pretty consistent throughout. Roasted chocolate and caramel malts are the main characters here and they make a strong presence throughout. The taste sweetens for the finish but a big roasted bitterness lingers along with a medium alcohol burn.
P- Big, thick, syrupy mouthfeel characteristic for the style. Carbonation is medium and does not get in the way of the smoothness of the mouthfeel.
O- I’ve only sampled a few from this style and this seems to be a solid example. ABV is normal for the style and alcohol presence plays a big role in this brew. Sweet caramel and roasted bitter chocolate mix well and leave behind a nice warmth. Decent overall-but I am confident I can find other examples of this style I enjoy more.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
First of all, this is not my favorite style of beer; I am an IPA drinker. That being said, I really enjoyed this. Pours a dark ruby brown with a tan head. Aromas of caramel, bread, and a little alcohol. Flavor is rich, sweet, smokey, and a nice bit of hops. Alcohol is evident. Very nice for a Scotch ale; really like the hops in this. Excellent.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours ruby-tinged brown, moderate tan head that fades to thin and sparse lacing. Aroma of smoke, peat, and very malty. Thinner mouthfeel, kind of slick, moderate carbonation. Slightly sweet, a bit bitter, with some saltiness. Very complex and rewarding beer to drink.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a mahogany with standard white head. Aroma is of honey complemented by notes of pine and yeast. The honey/caramel sweetness takes a backseat to the pine hops (but only by a bit) in the flavor department. Slightly thin body with more a more hoppy finish than I expected or wanted. I expected more considering how much I love Backwoods Bastard.
