4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint.
Cloudy orangish-brown with small head and minimal lacing. Turns lava red if held in the light just right. Great color but lack of head hurts slightly.
Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, peat, slight English hops. Smell definitely improves as it warms.
A malt bomb. Loads of caramel, dark fruit and toffee. However, some smokey peat and English hops keep the malt in-check. While sweet, the bitter finish prevents the beer from becoming cloying.
Thick and full-bodied with low carbonation. Almost chewy but the beer is too drinkable for that.
Seems lower than 8.5% abv. Very nice Wee Heavy overall. Just make sure to let this Bastard warm up some as I almost gave a couple lower scores because I was impatient to drink it right out of the fridge.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
24-OCT-2009, bottle @home.
Dark amber with nice head.
Very efficient malt based nose. Nice alcohol and bitterness balances the malts.
Quite complex malt taste, but the winner for this beer is the long aftertasted.
I am in no way an expert on the style, but this seems a bit "American" for a Scotch ale? Any way, I like it a lot.
It is in no way an "easy drink". Each sip reveals more and more. Mayby it just benefits from the increasing temperature?
Actually the higher the temperature, the more the hops kick in. I have experienced that a few times. Is that a well-known secret? In any way, I like it more the warmer it gets.
My second Founders, and I will definately still seek out available Founders beers in Copenhagen. Really well-made beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle@Home. Full, thick, syrupy. That’s what first comes to mind. Besides that rather bitter and malty. But the main thing with this beer is sweetness. Very sweet! Luckily the bitterness hides it a bit. Flavourful but not complex.

Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with thick tan head. Aroma of malt, some smoke. Body is thick and creamy. Taste of caramel malts, oak and spice, not too sweet. Very well balanced, finish and smooth and warming.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wonderful sipping beer for fall. Dark in appearance, aroma, and taste--malty with enough hops for balance, resulting in a smoky flavor conveyed in a creamy thick palate. The greater than 8 percent ABV is well-hidden.

Pours a clear reddish amber. Caramel malt, must grass, fruit, toffee, bread, and a bit of oak. Some bitter hops at the back. Nice beer well made, but Im not a big fan of the style.
