3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Bought att the brewpub. Very special tanks to Freddie!
Pours very dark red, almoust brown. No head on this.
I expected a more destinct aroma from this than I found. Aroma is mild from malt, butter, wood and burn sugar. Flavor has roasted malt, little spicey peppery from the alcohol. I also find some tar. Palte is medium.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer pours a muddy brown with a creamy. Smells amazingly of booze and rich caramel malts. The flavor follows the nose on this beer. Strong boozey flavor up front with a deep rich caramelly malt background. This is a fairly complex beer, with a very minimal hop presence. Iím glad it isnít overly sweet, yet the malt background is rather thick and actually. I enjoyed this one.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
A beautiful amber color with just a little head, deep amber color. The malty and smoke flavors compliment each other very well. Medium body little carbonation. One of the best scotch ales I have yet to try

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap, from growler filled at Party Mart. Dark rich clear amber brown color that, when held to light, reveals a great ruby red hue. Khaki head with descent retention. Roasty caramel, oak, nuts, and hops on the aroma. Favor had all of the same characteristics but a bit more potent on the whole. Sturdy hop profile. On the palate - turn the keg pressure down please. Overall: a solid beer that I wouldnít call sessionable but would call interesting.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very bold! Not usually a fan of the smoke flavor but this beer had just the right amount . Aroma was of bourbon and scotch. Flavor was carmel and malts.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Source: 12 oz bottle purchased at Bruisin Ales in Asheville.
Appearance: Poured a dark red/brown with a one finger beige head.
Aroma: Sweet malts and dark fruits. Caramel dominates.
Flavor: Caramel malt base with dark fruits on the end.
Palate: Medium/full body with mild carbonation.
Overall: Solid Founders offering. I donít crave the Scotch Ale style, but this was a particularly good one.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at 33 Wine bar in St. Louis. Deep mahogany with a thin, quickly disappearing white head. There is a dark rum quality to this with lots of fruit to it, and a bit of smoke. Itís very tasty but the sweetness overpowers a bit as it goes on.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Giant Eagle in Canton. Last time I had a scotch ale it tasted like bandaids so this was a pleasant reversal of my first run-in with this style. Dark copper/light ruby pour with light tan non-existent head (no I did not have a thistle glass, Iíve never even seen one). Light carbonation with an undeniable scotch aroma. Flavor is much the same but super subtle and cut by an equally subtle hop profile with a dry finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2011 Tap. Not too much as per i remember about this beer besides it was a full bodied beer with lots of flavor.
Edit saw this early rating and laughed. Donít object to the score however. Flavor ends with butterscotch finish? Fruit and woody aroma. Fruit and spice front of flavor. Tap.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle from a trade with dmschefke. pours burgundy with an everlasting tan head. malty aroma of caramel and dark fruit. the flavour is very malt forward but the finish is to hoppy for the style. i think more of the sublety would come through if it was as hopped. still a great beer though. thanks dave!
