There is a pleasant malty aroma with an alcohol background. The color is a deep red with a creamy tan head. The flavor is malty with an alcohol warming finish.

Purchased in bottle in Menomonee Falls, WI. This was a classic scotch ale, much like McEwanís. If there was ever a beer to put hair on oneís chest, this is probably it. A deep red color, very malty. This beer tastes like some sort of masculinity that I can only dream of. I had a few beers before this one, but Dirty Bastard is the one I will remember. A fantastic brew, very sweet-tasting and smoky but not overpowering. Dirty Bastard has a very full mouthfeel; one can taste alcohol when you breathe in with a mouthful of this stuff. I would drink this stuff by the gallon if my liver could handle it. Highly recommended.

Good stuff. Had not sampled a Scotch Ale before this one, but get the distinct impression this should be the template for further field research. Bittersweet, molasses subtleties, yummy!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 22, 2006 Iíve seen this on various shelves for about 2 years now and have finally picked it up. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin cream colored head. Smell has a peat and vanilla scent to it. Flavor is well balanced with a nice toasted malt followed by sweet caramel and vanilla. Alcohol is present but not unless you try to taste it. There is a new flavor in it after every sip. Amazing.

draught. A dark red which appears almost black at the thicker regions of the glass and a tan head. The aroma is quite biscuity with a sparkling acidity. The flavor is very bready and sweet with a biting bitterness and subtle citrus notes. Earthy, smokey coffee is hinted at in the finish. The caramel comes through about then as well. Interesting.

I canít really see what is so beautiful about this beer. I refuse to finish it. I had Founderís Breakfast Stout and was not impressed with that either. It pours with a weak off-white head, which is a good indication of too many adjuncts. The roasted malts made me wonder whether I was drinking a beer or swallowing an ashtray. Donít waste your money.

bottle smelled a bit like Old Style. pours an elegent brown, quite small mustard brown head. ebbs nicely. not a very powerful aroma, some coffee, quite a bit of raisin. very little hops. much better than the bottle smell. wow, that tastes great. so balanced, and for some reason iím surprised how absent the alcohol taste is. actually, there it is. itís quite nice though. woody, kinda reminds me of bear republics. the alcohol is growing stronger and the taste worse as it warms, i dont think i like this beer.

Pour dark brown with off white head - some sediment floating in the beer. Roasted and lightly burnt malt on the aroma with a light bit of toffee. Flavor is smooth roasted malt with toffee flavors and a grainy feel. Finish has a light bit of hop bitterness, but mainly still the sweet maltiness. Has almost a butter toffee lingering taste. Very nice example of the style.
