Bottle. Dark reddish brown, no head. Pretty mild aroma that is mainly malts with a slightly hoppy twinge. Flavor is big on malt sweetness, dark fruits that finishes with a bite of hops. Also has a faint metallic flavor underneath everything. Alcohol fairly well hidden.

( 12oz bottle) Pours red with nice oily bubbles, spare head and great lacing. Nose of bread, light cholorine hops, smoky malt. Taste of peat, toasted grains, smoke, caramel with a nicely carbonated finish and perfect body.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a small creamy tan head. Malty aroma of caramel, brown sugar and some fruitness. Flavor was lightly sweet with burnt caramel, dark fruit, toffee, brown sugar and had a touch of chocolate with a sticky oily texture and a dry finish

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2010 12oz bottled in Dec 2009. Pours brown/copper, with strong red highlights, nice fluffy tan head, sheets of lacing to start. Aroma is pretty quiet on this one, some caramel malts, which is then immediately contrasted with the huge flavor, immensly malty to start, lots of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee with a nice grassy bitter hop finish. Overall very malty impression, but a noticeable hop presence, more than other Scotch Ales I’ve tried. Mouthfeel is quite rich and creamy, medium carbonation. My first night ever with Founders, Breakfast Stout equaled expectations, Dirty Bastard exceeded expectations.

Dark brown with a good amount of sediment at the bottom of the glass and no head at all. The smell is quite nice and consists of caramel malts, molasses, hops, and a bready note that I can’t quite figure out. The taste is initial alcohol with a strong earthly and molasses finish. It tastes a little like scotch but not as strong as I would have thought, overall it is very good an interesting.

Bottle. Pours a good shade of garnet. Smells of malt and smoke. Bold with hints of whiskey. Medium bodied with a sweetness in contrast to the name.

0.355 l bottle at Monks Cafe Wallingatan, Stockholm. Slightly hazy chestnut color. Sweet, malty, toffeish and nutty aroma. Sweet malty, toffeish and berryish flavor with chocolate and nuts.

The aroma is an interesting one of a dark chocolate champagne formation. It doesnt exist for sure, but that is the sort of aroma I perceive. The bouquet is full of dark berry alcohol. The sugary alcohols add to the nice fragrances. The appearance is very dark ruby colorerd a bit hazy with almost no head whatsoever. The head is only a thin collar of white fluff. The taste is a moderate to heavy sweetness, but reserved not overly abundant as this style has a tendency towards. There are slight alcohol notes, but only sort of like a dark chocolate pinot noir (if there were such a thing) nothing overpowering. It’s most akin to The palate has underlying notes of bitterness that has light to moderate effervescence with an interesting dark chocolate feel on the center of the tongue. A sort of parallel of astringent sweetness.
