3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2011 12oz bottle from EithCubes - thanks, Mike! Now this is my kinda Scotch ale. Big and bold, with malts just pouring out and a big peaty aroma. Very rich and smooth, with a strong butterscotch note in the middle, balanced by a bit of dry spice towards the very end. Quite fine.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Dark amber, mahogany, light head and lacing. Nose of bright alcohol and earthy hops overshooting the sweet caramelly malts. Some chewy toffee. The flavor is nice and chewy, rich raisin and plum notes. Thick mouthfeel, creamy sweet, bright and fruit. Light hops, nice scotch.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Poured a cloudy purplish-brown color with a medium light-brown head. Nice lacing. Aroma is very malty with a sweet fruitiness to it. Very nice mouthfeel. Flavor is very strong, with malt, alcohol, caramel, and an almost smoke flavor to it. Interesting and tasty beer. Strong Scottish Ale for fans of the style.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
How could you not like the name of this brew? Short stubby 12 oz bottle that is certainly not a long neck. Has a twist off cap. No head. Cloudy root beer appearance. Chocolate rubbing alcohol aroma, really attractive. OOOH, smoothness makes you take a big swig then the malt alky impact whacks you in the palate. A rather strong alky brew and it tells you. It is so easy to confuse scotch ale with the milder Scottish ales. Simply just buzz making. What a brew, like somebody spiked this beer with whiskey. Strong, numbs up the old tase buds rather quickly. Yes, the taste is somewhat like the aroma; big bold and intoxicating. Really coats the back of your throat. Finish is medium long and malty alcohol bitter. Barely acceptable as a beer because of itís style but it is on par with McEwans Scotch Ale, OB Chubb and 3Fís the bruce. Really is powerful as stated in the description. Quite an exceptional rude alky experience, these scotch ales.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle from Gregis (via Corral Liquors in Granite City, IL). Pour is a clear reddish brown with a one inch off-white head. Aroma is caramel sweet malt and some hoppiness. Taste has a medium to full body with a really nice full bodied sweetness. Rounds out to a citrus hop finish. Very smooth and drinkable, I was quite surprised to see the ABV.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
dark copper/brown colored with mild head. it smells like a Scoth ale, for sure.... touches of roasted malts with sour/soft echoes of vanilla and toffee. An ample bodied selection, but one that features a raisiny/malty quality, syrupy caramel malted, and a fruity smooth touch, with a touch of biting sour/dry hops. A nice offering

Bottle: Auburn pour with a smaller beige head. Nose is sweet and malty with oak, caramel, and fruity tones. Syrupy and thick feel. Malty and dry, there is a bit of oak present with a little citrus and hints of the alcohol content. Enjoyable. Thanks Eithcubes.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: AUG 6, 2007 Received in a bottle from a friend! :) Iíve heard a lot about this local small brewery and finally get to sample one of their beer. Rich, strong aroma. Poured a deep red-brown. Creamy small tan head that remained a very thin cap to the end., Left nice lacing. Rich, robust, slightly smoky flavor with very malty, chocolate. roasted malt and earthy taste. Very full body, thick texture, very soft carbonation with a very nice flavorful finish. This beer is one of the best ones Iíve ever enjoyed. Founders has done a great job with Dirty Bastard. I tried this in a tulip. I will definitely add this to my normal rotation of favorite beer. If you like beer dark, rich, thick and full of great flavor this is the beer for you! To me it is excellent!!

On tap at the Oasis. Have tried several times before , but this time it was in a sampler. Very nice scotch ale flavor, good sweetness in the malt with roasted and alcohol flavors.
